So as you know I've recently gotten into DO school. But my parents and I talked and we decided that maybe the honorable field of janitorial science may be a better and more respectable career.
There are many options and pros to janitorial science and practice. And I'm truly now divided!
Please help me choose!!!!!

( for those of you who do not know Janitor or DO was a popular thread started many many years ago and has much significance on this board. In light of recent DO respect posts on the forum I felt it necessary to revitalize this most honorable and amazing discussion!)

I recommend watching "Good Will Hunting" as it will solidify your passion to become a janitor.

(Nothing wrong with being a janitor)

This is kind of disrespectful to janitors. They're good people.

Now dental school on the other hand...

Why not both?

I believe the appropriate nomenclature is now "Environmental Services Specialists" 😉

I mean... I can try to enter a SJP ( special janitorial program) so I can become competitive.... I don't want to give up what can be a great chance man...

Good luck on the JCAT, that thing is a beast. I just couldn't handle studying for it so I settled for DO.

Hey guys! I wanna know as much as i can about janitorial science. I know it's what I want to do forever. I'm super passionate about it you don't even know. How much do they make and how many hours do they work a week? I only plan to work part time so i can have a great big family. I can only live on 200k minimum lol i shop a lot but it's okay because i'm marrying a rich lawyer. Would becoming a non-academic janitor let me work less than 30 hrs a week and still make at least 200k a year? Thanks guys!

You wanna work very little hours and make a lot of money also? What a coincidence ME TOO. I heard from my father who is a janitor himself that you can make 500 k a year working only 3 days a week. I'm definitely going to janitorial school and I'm gonna make BANK. Yipeee. Heard DOs don't even make 100k. Yuck I would never do that. I can't be poor.

I actually was a janitor for a while. Let me just say, women's restrooms are disgusting in case any of the guys out there have ever wondered.
I was under the impression that they had free espresso and couches with nice magazines and shiz.

@touchpause13 told me that when she was shadowing a janitor he actually had to defeat a cthullu who lived in the women's restroom. She said she barely walked out alive that day.

I always thought so too, what with them going in groups like it was some kind of club or something.

Turns out it's just as disgusting as a men's room, plus all the fun of blood and tampons.

If you were a janitor why are you downgrading to DO?

I mean, there's nothing wrong with practicing general janitorial science, but the kind of lifestyle I want requires a fellowship in wet-jetting and decon. Dollah-dollah bills!

I was really inspired to become a DO after a freak mopping accident left me with persistent back pain that only OMM could fix.

What is this DO anyhow. I heard they are like chiropacters. Its probably better to go to a medical school to fix your freak mopping injuries

Hello everyone, first time studentjanitornetwork poster. I've been on this website for a while but this is my first post.
I'm a sophomore at a top [#] university.
I always wanted to become a janitor since I was a kid. I grew up being influenced by janitors and I even had an opportunity to shadow a janitor clean up a floor in person. It was so inspirational and I knew at that moment I had a calling for cleaning. I can't think of anything else beside being a janitor. My passion is to clean.
However, 🙁, I got a B- in organic chemistry. Does this mean I can't get into a janitor school?

My GPA is now 3.94 (3.90 science). I've been taking 25 credits a semesters since start of college but I feel like I'm behind everyone. Urg.... Why me?...
Do you guys think I have a shot? What are my chances?
I don't know if this is the correct place to post since I saw a entire section of What are my chances but I'm going to post it on here anyways.

my GPA breakdown:
Chem 1 - A+
Chem 2 - A+
Biol 1 - A (I know, I had a rough semester)
Biol 1 (retake) - A+
Biol 2 - A+
Orgo 1 - A+
Orgo 2 - B- (**** me! My life is ruined!!)
Biochem - currently taking it. But I'm afraid I'll get an A in that class because I got 94% on the first exam. What a bummer..........
other classes are all A+, including sociology and psychology.

I've been studying JCAT for past 5 months and I'm going to do that 3 month JCAT studying posted on studentjanitornetwork after taking a course by G.W. Hunting Review. What score do you guys think I'll get?
My practice scores on the JJOMAS have been so inconsistent. 38 on first, 37 on second, 38 on 3rd, 39 on 4th. I thought I can score at least a 40 but I guess I have to study more. Should I expect to score a similar score on the real JCAT?

My ECs are probably the only good thing in my application.
1500 hours of clinical experience, president at 3 organizations that I helped starting, shadowed 4 janitors (I still have to shadow a public school janitor because I need a LOR from him to apply to janitor school), 3 summers of international mission trips (last one was to west africa to clean up sick people), 4 first author on publication from a lab that I work in on how to remove stains without using malodorous chemicals (2 second author, not sure to put that in my application though), 7+ years of volunteering at Microsoft.

I still need to volunteer somewhere that is related to janitoring because **** my values and hobbies, I just need to put these on my application and that is all that matters.
Should I be doing more???

I'm applied to 30+ with help from my parents (who were so rude by telling me to pay for them myself but came around to paying it themselves. I mean, I'm going to be a janitor, they can't do this for me now? Do they even known how much $$$$ i'm going to make?)
Should I applied to more?

What do you think @Goral?

Try Cleaning School. They basically do the same thing as Janitors but I heard their cycle is longer. Good luck!

You need to strengthen your janitorial research experience. Look into mop vs sweep theory...it's the future of environmental services.

But I had my heart set on running the powered floor buffer...Can I do that with a Cleaning School degree or will I be stuck with cleaning the urinals?

In that case, as others have posted previously above, try JMP. But be warned, they are expensive.

I have over 10000 clinical hours how many do you have? I'm sick and tired of these mid level cleaning practioners stepping on my practice rights. You have no where near the qualifications of us janitors.

Well...well I shadowed a janitor for 1 day but I saw an episode of Outhouse where Janitor Outhouse used a floor buffer and it didn't look so hard!

SJN...

We're missing the big picture.

WHAT ABOUT JANITOR VS. CUSTODIAN?

How could we have forgotten about the DC degree?!? They're cleaning professionals too, ya know!

They know their ****!

Don't you hate how the maids are always heckling the janitors. Janitor gives em' a feather duster, and they think they can do anything.

Hey guys I need yo help, I can't decide what school of thought I should pursue for my doctorate in Janitorial sciences program. Do you think that my future colleagues will look down on me if I attend a school that has a holistic view on our profession?

I think holistic views of janitorial sciences is the best way to go.. Like.. Would you use windex for the acidic behemoth that people call "vomit"? I don't think so. Whether you're going academic or non-academic janitor, holistic is the best.

On a side note, I was once shadowing a janitor, and an intern janitor backtalked to the attending janitor, he literally got the pit for a week.

I hear the people in the janitor admissions office don't like that "H" word used. Just a tip for all those pre-jans out there!

Hey guys, my stats are kind of low. My sophomore year in college was awful for me because I was involved in a freak ammonia and aluminum foil accident. I hate to admit it, but my GPA is a .98...I was looking online and found that there's a program in Darfur that has full accreditation to practice janitorial science in the USA after completion. I know it will be a great opportunity because everything is dirty there; especially those unclean pirates! The biggest hurdle is going to be sneaking into the country without being kidnapped or killed because of my skin color. Anyone have thoughts on what I should do??

I would apply to every janitor program you can find before giving up and going DO... The ones in the carribean are good I heard. Plus yeah you can go to West Africa, North Korea, etc. Either way, I'd do whatever possible to make sure that one day I'll be wearing a jumpsuit that says janitor rather than a white coat that says DO.

Yah... US Janitor schools are like... 3.99 and Jcats in the 90th percentile... idk... maybe it's worth looking into janitor assistant programs? How about masters in custodian practitioner programs?

I do know, man. Watching those Harry Potter movies really showed me that anything is possible with a broom in my hands. I just can't give up on my dream of becoming a janitor. As I'm sure you've deducted, janitor assistants and custodian practitioners can't fly a broom with out a janitors supervision, and that, sir, is a life I cannot stand for.
