I just got my first secondary today...which is odd, because I just submitted AMCAS 7/23 and it hasn't been verified yet! I was surprised to get a secondary already, I thought they had to get your primary first and that they can't do that until it has been verified. How did Jefferson know I was applying there? Does AMCAS give the schools a heads up as soon as you submit, and then they just have to wait for verification to download the whole app? The Jefferson secondary pretty much just wants $80 and to know if you have any legacy type connections there (which I don't). Oh, and my SAT scores 😕, but I never took the SAT. And so the fun begins...

AMCAS sends un-verified and verified data to the medical schools. I'm assuming Jefferson got your name, address, etc. from the un-verified data.

Here's the lowdown from the website:

# What is AMCAS sending out to schools?

AMCAS provides both paper and electronic application products to every medical school designated (and paid for) by the applicant.
Paper Products

Processed Applications (verified)
Processed applications represent the complete set of data an applicant has submitted to AMCAS. All sections of processed applications have completed AMCAS processing. All data in such applications are considered final unless changes are later sent to the schools.

Change Reports
These reports will be compiled and mailed to each school each week. These reports reflect changes to selected key data for previously verified applications.

Electronic Products

Mailing Label Data
These data include preferred name, mailing address, phone, e-mail address, state of legal residence and other selected key data elements, and are intended to give schools the opportunity to contact applicants interested in their program(s). Preliminary applicant data are provided to medical schools via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) twice each month. Mailing Label Data are also made available via the AMCAS Data Transmission Utility (DTU).

Electronic File of Select Applicant Data
Once a week, abridged application data is made available to medical schools via FTP. Some of the data included in this file transfer are applicant biographic information, schools attended, course work, GPAs, MCAT scores and contact information. These data do not include applicant essays or post-secondary experiences.

Processed Applications (verified)
Processed applications represent the complete set of data an applicant has submitted to AMCAS. All sections of processed applications have completed AMCAS processing. All data in such applications are considered final unless changes are later sent to the schools. Processed Applications (verified) are transmitted electronically via the AMCAS Data Transmission Utility (DTU) to all designated medical schools on a weekly basis.
