I'm currently a 3rd year medical student who's going to be applying for a family residency. I've been told that it is best to do a residency in the location that you want to end up in, because it will be easier to find a job through networks created, etc. Is this true? How feasible is it to do residency in one location, and then find a job elsewhere? I'm thinking of staying on the East Coast for residency, but then moving to California for a job. (Due to some circumstances I can't change, so this would work out better for me.) Thanks!

You can absolutely choose a residency on one coast and pracitice on the other. You will just need to do a little more leg work once you are done. There are a few advantages to choosing a residency in the area where you want to practice. It's definitely easier to network. This has been stated before on this forum, but medicine is regional. If you plan on praciticing in an area where FP's often include obstetrics, it may not be a good idea to do a residency in a part of the country where very few FP's are delivering. None of this should limit your choices; you can make things work either way.
