I am worried about the job outlook for occupational therapy. Can someone who has been working in the field for awhile give me some insight on the future of this field and if they ever had to struggle to find a job to make a decent living?

Also, Im also wondering why occupational therapists typically have higher salaries than someone with a master's in psychology? They are both helping professions that have a huge focus on mental health.

Thank you

All of my professors say we will have no problems finding jobs and most of us will have offers before we graduate. I recently read an article stating that there won't be enough OTs to fill the open jobs even with new schools opening because of the baby boomer generation. How true this is, I'm not sure, but it was nice to read. Overall, I'm very confident in the job market and being able to get a job when I graduate. I considered a job with a master's in psych since my undergrad is in psych, but the job market just isn't that great(plus I really wanted the health/biophysical aspect of OT) There are more grads than jobs for psych, so maybe that's why the salary is low.

Hey alg5443, how long have you been in the OT program? What school do you go to?

If you want to tell me privately, PM me 🙂

Hi FutureOTRL, I just started my first semester at Thomas Jefferson. I absolutely love the program. I feel like I have learned so much already and fieldwork 1 starts the first semester so it's been a great learning experience to compliment our lectures. If you have any questions about OT school or TJU or anything in general, feel free to ask!
