Job market in CA?

I know there's been many threads regarding jobs, salary and lifestyle for a neurologist but there's none specifically about the California area. I've heard that due to the excessive supply of neurologists in the state, it is very difficult to find a job after coming out of residency. I've heard horror stories where neurologists fresh out of residency are only getting paid $80-90k and have to work their butt off in a medical group and taking calls for the rest of the neurologists in the group.

If anybody has heard about the situation in CA, please enlighten me as well as others in this forum. Specifically, how difficult is it to find jobs and what are the salaries like? I appreciate anybody's comments. Thanks.

Excessive supply of neurologists in California? Why don't you look at the yellowpage and see how many neurologists are listed. Average wait for an outpatient visit is routinely weeks. If anything, neurologist is under supplied.

I have to agree with kasimagore1. I rotated with a group of neurologists in California and they were extremely busy. The practice had 3 neurologists and they each saw close to 50 patients/day. They were looking for another partner and were even joking that they would hire me as soon as I was done with residency (well, I hope they were actually serious about that part). So, unless something changes drastically, I think the job market in CA should be pretty strong for neurologists. Also, with the aging population, I think the demand for neurologists will increase as well.

Im from SoCal and according to physcians I have spoke with, there is a shortage of Neurologists. There are a lot of older Neurologists looking at retirement age in the next 5-10 years as well.

Well, the reason I was concerned was because one of the fellows I spoke with told me that it was hard to find a decent job in California. He was the one who told me that salary would only be about 80-90k due to the oversupply of neurologists in the area.

Where did you guys get your sources that neurologists are in demand? I've looked on various health job sites and there isn't that many jobs available for neurologists in the CA area.
