Just wondering what optometrist job quality is like at LasikPlus?

I'm nearing the end of my 1yr of free follow-ups... I had a lot of dryness, got punctal plugs, still using drops 10+ times per day with problematic itching and dryness in the mornings. It's nice to not have contacts during sports, but instead of buying contacts, I now buy eye drops. It's annoying more than anything... not sure whether or not I'd repeat the procedure.

Anyways, I've done 6-8 follow-up visits at LasikPlus now, and I've never had the some optometrist once (never saw the MD who did my surgery except on the procedure day). The place is occasionally busy but never crazy, so I can't imagine they need more than 2 or 3 ODs on staff. I've seen a different one every time (it's always a young OD fresh out of school), and ones I've seen in past visits are nowhere to be found. I just thought that was weird.

I thought it'd be a good quality OD job since you get to test for dryness, put in plugs, etc instead of just do eye exams all day (although they still do tons of that). I was suprised that there seems to be very high OD turnover rates here for some reason. I know WalMart, Pearle Vision, LasikPlus, etc are common employers for ODs, so what's the "word 'round the campfire" on LasikPlus?

Edit to add: you can PM if you want... with lots of views and no takers, maybe this is a sore subject?

I'm not a Lasik fan to begin with. Find a good independent OD that will take the time to help you. IMO MDs will continue to bandaid the problem and not take the time to properly manage chronic conditions like dry eye.

You should have got a referral to a better Lasik surgeon from a family OD who knows who is good.

It seems it is very, very common for "budget" lasik centers to have a massive turnaround for ODs.

Feli,

Actually, that is a very limiting scope of practice. Since they do preop and post op on relatively healthy eyes, I doubt they would run across glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy to any great extent and if so, it would be happenstance.

In my opinion, a laser practice may not hold much interest for a new graduate because of the "sameness" of the practice.
