Job shadowing or volunteer?

I was just wondering how to list my pharmacy experience on my resume...

I was at a family friend's indy pharmacy for a whole month. While there, I was practically doing everything a pharmacist does under the pharmacist's supervision. Before I started though, I told him I didn't want to get paid or anything, but just wanted to work with him in order to learn since he just started out and doesn't even have a tech yet.

Question now is should I list this in my resume as job shadowing or volunteer? I know that a month may be too long a time for shadowing, so am leaning more towards listing this experience as volunteering. I worked for 3 days a week x 4 weeks.

I would list it as whatever you agreed it was when you set it up with the family friend. If you aren't sure, you could ask them how they suggest you list it. I presume they are going to be a reference for you, so it's pretty important that you don't list it as volunteering if they considered you to be job shadowing. Although if they put you to work it sounds more like you were unpaid labor.

Once you have an internship, I'd consider removing it from your resume. If you did it as a pre-pharm, I'd definitely not state that you did everything a pharmacist does under their supervision. Even as a current student, I'd be wary about this. It's a difficult statement to support, especially for a first time experience, and depending on where you live your state laws may prohibit you from doing some things even under supervision.

Put is as Volunteering and it may be helpful to list the types of duties you did in bullet point format so whoever reads it has a better picture of what you have been exposed to.
