As a P1,I am having a difficult time finding a job.

I have applied at all the chain pharmacies and hospitals in th area.

Is it a sign of the economy? I am only looking for part time or a labor pool (on call ) at a hospital.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

The only answer is to drop out in my opinion.

There will probably more jobs as summer draws near and P3s leave for rotations.

But yeah the economy sucks right now. Rite Aid in my district (and region, I think) is laying off most interns with more than 400 hours. I hope they won't lay off all interns next (and replace them with low-paid techs)...

Hospital jobs are the hardest to come by now, but we had a "speed networking" event and I spoke to a manager of a hosp. pharmacy, and she told me to apply to hospitals around March.

This doesn't mean there will be jobs in March. This simply means:

  • Don't bother me now because I don't want to see another application and hopefully come March, you'll have forgotten I told you to apply in March.
  • Hospitals keep a different fiscal year than calendar year..so there will be a new budget which could possibly have additional tech/intern positions, but don't count on it.
  • I'm glad I still have a job but come March, I may not be here.

be nice...

to the OP, where do you reside?

Oh, you're going to find this random poster a job or you have better ideas about how to go about in finding an intern job than some of us old grouchy pharmacists?

I live a in suburb outside New Orleans and many hospitals are hiring techs. The thing is is that there are openings but it's hard to find people who can work hours that the pharmacy needs since so many are in school or work at other places. Try a hospital, you may be surprised at the openings you see. You will get paid less, but they are more willing to work with pharmacy students (at least the one I work at is).

dont forget about smaller hospitals, surgery centers, LTAC, and independents!
