Hi All!

I'm sure all of you are worried about the debt that we will be in after veterinary school. Considering that veterinarians do not exactly make millions of dollars, I was wondering if any of you knew of jobs for veterinarians that at least help pay for our schooling.

One vet I worked with joined the Army, and they paid for a substantial portion of vet school (maybe all of it, I'm not sure). She worked as a veterinarian for army service dogs after school, but I don't know if a certain amount of employment after school is required or not.

I was about to say that. The Army Veterinary Corps will pay for your tuition but you have to meet certain requirements which can be difficult in some situations. I'm no expert, I just know I didn't want to be in the army when I graduate. (No offense to those who are, of course!) I also think VCA or Banfield (not sure which) has some kind of debt-pay off deal with certain amount of years employed with them after you graduate. Again, check my facts, I'm not 100% on these.

I am from rural Minnesota and the vets from my hometown actually make just as much if not more than the physicians. Its really weird hearing all about how vets do not make very much money because I was brought up seeing great earning potential in the profession.

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center has a tuition waiver through the University of Illinois.

However, you have to have been working there for over a year, continue to work there while at vet school, and other hoops to jump through in order to qualify.

I'm still not sure if they will cover the entire tuition.

The only one I know of outside of the Army is Banfield.

Since any private loan repayment program is equivalent to income on your taxes, you should just compare any such benefit to the salary (or ProSal) of a regular job.

Public loan repayment (forgiveness) programs are different.
