Hi all,
All those who are going to NYU this year may join here and ask questions if u have any concerns or arrange for accomodation etc!

the orientation starts july!

good luck every one!

Hi Buddy,

Could you share how much you scored in Part 1? Did you take Part 2 too?

It would be super nice if you could share with us your application procedure, i.e., what materials you studied for Part 1, how you prepared for the interviews, etc.

Mighty grateful if all the folks who managed to get in to NYU (or other colleges), share their experiences.

Thanks
Manu

i got 89 in part 1 and Part 2 i have not taken yet.
toefl - 270
The application procedure is as usual.

dental decks, and the previous year national board questions, and some books that i used in india for BDS.
you dont need any special preparation, just relax and lead a smooth conversation with the interviewer thats it!
good luck to you!

hi there
i think this is a good thread.i will be going to nyu too.i now live in WA.i am looking forward to share an apt with my classmate so that we can commute together.i heard traveling frm jersey is minimum abt 1 hr.i did go thro some apt outskirts of nyu.it takes abt 40 min frn there i am planning to go there if we get an apt coz its cheaper than living in manhattan.if any one is interested we can do the research together.Nor i am interestd commuting for 3 hrs a day.instead we can utilise it for studies rt?

You should consider living in Hoboken, Weehawken or West New York, NJ. All these cities have a ferry service that is literally a 10 minute commute into NYC.

Check out www.nywaterway.com

I've already found 2 people, including myself from NJ who are going to NYU this fall. we are trying to find which is best - "to commute from NJ" or "to rent an apartment in the city!" i will post once we decide which is best...

The actual problem in commuting is getting to the university from port authority, since there is no subway conveniently located to go to the dental school.
there is a subway at 8th avenue and 14th street and there is the other at 23rd street and park avenue. its about 20-25 minute walk from both the places. well even if u take the bus it may take the same time(atleast when ever i tried) as you may have to wait and stuff.
Does anybody know a better way of getting around this problem??

kimu, are u also going to NYU this year? if yes, iam just curious to know where u live and what your plans are!

Hi,
Iam also going to NYU this Year.did u guys decided/have any info about the student loans.
thanks,
drvas_dds

Hi,
I am also joining nyu this fall, do u guys have any idea about private student loans and how you go about it, please discuss, and also any idea what kind of laptop is good , whether to buy it at the school store or outside?? thanks.

Congratulations to all you guys going to NYU for IDP. Could you also share your scores (NBDE, TOEFL, GPA etc) along with your Interview experience and any Dos and Donts for us future applicants for next year and years beyond. Also include on when your application was complete and the dateline thereafter. That will be an invaluable info for us. Please spare few minutes for us. Thanks in advance.

hey avik!

congrats on getting into nyu.

i heard that in manhattan downtown, there are a lot of apartments available due to the economic slump, and u may get a good deal on some of them.also if u look for apartments which don't have a doorman, they are cheaper than the ones which do.

also,if u are going to live in nj,u can take the path train to 23rd st and take a bus from there.the bus stops right near the school so you need'nt walk.you can also do the same if u r going to live in manhattan.

you can also ask ur seniors at school for help.

hope this helps,good luck.

durelon.

NBDE(Part-1) : 88,TOEFL : 250, application reached NYU : 07/01/02.
RECVD interview letter : 11/05/02.

I hope this helps.
Good Luck

I'll be going to NYU this year too.
For all the ppl applying to NYU, your scores dont matter too much. Any score above 82 is good enough. Apply early. And, dont forget to notarize your documents.

hi

82 is a good score to appy to nyu. i got a score close to this and have been accepted by nyu. the best tip i can give is apply as early as poosible.

I have applied in NYU for 2003 fall, Application reached on 10/feb/2003, I haven't heard anything from them, so far,
I have 89 NBDE Part 1 AND 289 TOEFL
I have almost 9 years of clinical exp after my BDS in India,

Do I have a chance.....pls give your openion and or help,

Thank you all NYU Buddies...

I will be joing NYU too. I am looking for female roommates at this time. If any of you is female, please let me know if you would be interested in rooming together. I have just started looking at apartment costs in Queens, New Jersey and other New York suburbs. I think it would be a good idea to share among us any details you know about cheap accomodations, roommates, etc.. Thanks a lot.

Also please share your experiences about applying for loans, grants, etc..

hi

i'm also looking for somebody(female) to share the dorm with. they say though we spent more on the rent by staying in the school dorm, but we'll be saving in commuting to the campus. and i heard we'll be having evening classes, so it'll be more convenient staying closer to the school.
am'i right?
i would be interested in looking at other places also if the area is safe and if it will help me save a few dollars.

thank u

Has anyone(accepted candidates) received loan/housing application or information from NYU yet?
Thanks.

Guys,
Lots of us have asked for this and only Avik and drvas_dds shared the info. It will be great if you guys could share your info for future applicants. Like your credentials (NBDE, TOEFL, GPA) and the whole process that you followed. Like any tricks and trades and useful info that we could use for next year admissions. I am starting a new thread for this. Please update your experiences getting through to NYU. Appreciate your help (Just keep yourselves in our shoes for few minutes. That will set us in right direction for next year)
