I have a question for any on here with any knowledge. I am AD Army finishing up my fellowship. My wife is AD Air Force. She is currently doing a civilian deferred fellowship year at a university based hospital. My AD fellowship and her civilian deferred fellowship are in the same area so we are together. She comes back on active duty as a staff the same time I do when I graduate. For our specialties there are only two places where we can be co-located (San Antonio and the National capital area). For the upcoming academic year there were no availabilities, according to our consultants, where we could be co-located. Right now I got a billet assignment away and she is able to stay in the area. The Air Force had to do some bending over backwards to keep her in our current area because it's one of the places where we can be co-located. The Army however, could not keep me in the area but promised they'd bring me back in a year. Well come to find out due to budget cuts one year will now be two years. That is a long time apart. My RFO has already been sent to me. I could potentially do additional GME training in an Army sponsored sub-fellowship to get back to the area after one year apart. However, I have reservations about this because I'll add two additional years for that year of training. Not to mention, the attitude I got was that the needs of the Army comes first. I have a sour taste in my mouth and just want to get my obligation over with and be done with the Army. I don't feel like my consultant is being completely up front with me. I have the feeling like he has slots to fill and does not want to work really hard to do what's best for the couple. He's happy doing what's best for the Army. Does anyone on these boards who is experienced, know if I have any recourse? Are there some joint-spouse clause that I can try to go after?
