how does one look this up for a particular journal?
i normally google "named journal impact factor" and it's worked for me every time.

I tried that with this journal I got published in and it didn't work. is there a database out there?
Yes. Thomson/Reuters would be more than happy to sell you a subscription. It's one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" scenarios though. Your institutional library might have a subscription but many don't because it's so damn expensive (mine doesn't).
The main source of finding the IF of a journal is the journal itself. If they don't brag about it on their own website, assume it's <1.
Was it scientific research published in a real journal or was it an entry in a magazine?
I doubt it's the latter (and don't mean to insult your intelligence by asking it), but a classmate of mine wrote a non-research article for a medical magazine and asked what the impact factor was - it didn't have an impact factor, as the magazine didn't deal with research.
lol
That ish went on ERAS.
True - along with the other seventeen "publications" at their Med School which were, in fact, mandatory Public Health presentations on the global scourge of Cholera.
On a side note - yours truly is soon to be published in a Journal with an impact factor of >18. *Seeks validation from random forum members*. It would nearly bring a tear to the eye of his Highness (GutOnc).
If it's not Science or Nature it aint sheet, no one will love you, and you definitely won't get any hawt chicks to sleep with you.

I don't care about the women, the money, the power, the high-life or any of the other trappings that getting first author on a Journal with a > 18 IF inevitably brings with it - I only care about gaining gutonc's respect.
you guys are hilarious.you guys are hilarious.
congrats on that! my other thread has a case where I might get into something pretty good.
what kind of article are you getting published? some research?
It's some research I carried out over the past 18 months with a great team of people. I really wasn't expecting it to take off but am, needless to say, ecstatic that it has. I was sweating ERAS a bit with the lack of big time publications, but this should be another box ticked at least.
Truth be told, you can publish in a journal with an Impact Factor of 18, 20, 40 or even 60, but you've only really made it when the names "gutonc" or "jdh71" appear on your list of "the last 20 people to view this profile were" on your SDN profile. Unfortunately, that day has not yet come for me. I'm convinced, however, that with another few big-time publications and a thousand more posts in SDN that either one will take an interest. Maybe jdh71 will even put in a good word for me at Hopkins.
doubtful
I don't like any of you
That's OK - Mayo Clinic FTW (that's "for the win" for all your old-schoolers).
Hahahaha
Mayo Clinic was way higher on my rank list than Hopkins, you lucked out.
