This might totally be out there, so please bear with me SDN. But I'll be applying this upcoming cycle and I was wondering what people thought about journaling as practice for secondary writing. I don't know about you all, but I haven't done much writing about myself, my thoughts/feelings, or goals much during my undergraduate career. I thought maybe journaling could be a good practice for the introspective thought processes needed for not only secondaries but also the PS and interviews as well.
Also, I know there are some journals out there that you can buy with pre-written prompts in them and if anyone has one they'd recommend that'd be great because I think stress-relief/mental health-wise this could be a good habit to add regardless of helping with application stuff.

What are your thoughts?

That sounds like a great idea. Get used to putting down your thoughts, and take the time to proofread/edit later so you can understand more about your writing style. Read entries aloud to see whether your verbiage sounds natural or stilted. Take the time to write well. As my old piano teacher used to say: "Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect."

I think if this is both stress relieving and creative for future secondaries then it’s a GREAT idea. Secondaries matter and if you apply to lots of schools the volume will dampen quality if you don’t come into the process with some pre-written or atleast a general ability to put on paper who you are and why Medicine

I think it's a good idea if you find it stress-relieving. Personally I am not a fan of writing so looking back I'm glad I didn't prolong the pain by writing for several months before starting my secondaries.

I did start a gratitude journal recently (briefly noting 3 things I'm grateful for which happened that day), and I found that is very helpful for evaporating stress.
