I'm looking to find some good journals to read. Mainly for mcat prep and interest. The passages in the mcat are a weak section for me. I have found a journal called The New England journal of medicine. My library offers it. But it's a tough read since I am not a physician. Is it worth it to keep reading it? Or is there something better suited.

I've heard that the best MCAT prep are practice tests and that anything else is sub-optimal. But I want to see what people think. Are journals any use to read as prep independently?

don't bother with nejm. too medicine-like and dry.

I second the economist.

I mean, you might as well just read whatever you're interested in. If you have a few hours on a Sunday morning, grab the New York Times and a coffee and just enjoy yourself. Or, you know, read a book.

If you need more targeted MCAT CARS practice you should probably just take practice passages.

Seconded. Read good journalism/news or a novel. Scientific literature isn't often the best example of complex themes and interpretations. Science writing is intentionally transparent. The MCAT is just the opposite.

I'm in a similar situation OP. Right now I just look through random articles on PubMed or something for a few minutes per week, but I want to find something a little more consistent and lighter in terms of reading.

If you are looking for scientific articles to prep for the MCAT (something that helped me a ton!), I recommend a free app called QxMD. You essentially put in fields or journals you are interested in, and it loads tons of scientific articles for you to read. If you have university credentials, you can also put those in to bypass most paywalls and get even more access to primary and secondary research articles. It's a useful tool to use when you have some free time- instead of playing a game on your phone, read a paper!

pubmed central.

All free. Check out cancer stuff and behavioral neuroscience (for psych section).
