As soon as applications open up I hear people say that one can apply to a school without MCAT score while waiting for MCAT score to come in. Is it wise to apply without a score? Also specifically if I were to apply and take July 13th MCAT and my score not come back until August 13th would I be at a disadvantage in regards to MD and DO acceptances?

How do you plan to apply to an appropriate list of schools without an MCAT score?

I mean like people say that people apply to one school for verification process to start is what I mean. I was going to apply to list of schools after score came back August 13th and I figured what schools I would be competitive at but is that too late to gain MD and DO acceptances?

Yes it's possible to gain acceptance doing this. It's not particularly wise to do so, though.

Ya only reason is because I need the time to prepare for MCAT. Don't want to take it earlier when I'm not 100 percent ready.

I would strongly consider applying the following year then.

Would my admission chances be lower than someone who applied earlier than me with there MCAT score like when application season just starts?

Yes. Applying earlier is always better. I don't think anyone can tell you precisely how much this would affect your chances, though.

If you could get all your apps in by august that should be fine IMO. I would make a school list based on the averages of your official AAMC practice tests. My own score was within 4 points of my average (on the higher side which was a happy surprise). I made my school list using this assumption.

What’s better a 500 and applying early like first day one can submit or getting a 510-512 and applying in mid August? Only taking in July because wasn’t ready earlier

It's currently October. That leaves you 8 months until May, which is plenty of time to overstudy for the MCAT, do well, and apply. I'm not sure why you want to wait until July if you have the time to study and take it earlier

I feel like the tricky aspect of doing this is that it's very hard to work on your primary while preparing for the MCAT at the same time. So, you will probably end up submitting it after. And, while it takes 4 weeks to score the MCAT, it can take > 5 weeks to get verified, and let me tell you, it's painful having a good score and wanting to submit secondaries and not being able to. Prewriting is also easier said than done. I guess I think you should consider whether you *really* need that time. I kept pushing it off because of confidence issues and burnout. I psyched myself out so hard that I only took 2 practice tests, 1 7 days before, 1 5 days before. I got a 521 in the end. I ended up studying 3-4 weeks max (very long days) and was flat out unproductive when I pushed it back.

I wasn't on depression medication until late last year, and I was genuinely burned out after graduation, but had I been in a good state, I would have taken the test in January or by the end of June and submitted my app immediately after. It's honestly so stressful to be waiting for responses while people who submitted earlier have 5 IIs or something.

It depends on what the stakes are, for you. I feel like if you budget time well, you could probably write out the activity descriptions, solicit rec letters, and even draft up the personal statement/additional essays over an entire school year, and submit the primary right after the exam, prewrite secondaries, and be complete by the end of August. Or you could try to do it all after the test and probably still be complete by August. That being said, gonnif has a point about making a school list. Mine was very restricted to start with, so it was easier.

But what's better a 500 score on time of first day of submission or July MCAT and applying mid August with a 510-515 score?

Neither. Wait a year and apply in June with a 515
I graduate December 2018 so if I did that than I’d be applying for fall 2021 when I could gain an admission to medical school fall 2020 which is earlier even if I applied in mid August for Fall 2020 admission

You want to apply for Fall 2020 admissions, which means you want to submit your AMCAS in June 2019. You have 8 months until May, which is more than enough time to study well for the MCAT, kill it, and apply early. Why do you think waiting an extra 2 months will help you?

Because I’m choosing an Mcat date without taking any practice tests prior. I’m still on content and than plan to finish with content at the latest end of January

I took my MCAT on June 30 and applied to all 6 of my schools based on my aamc FLs. I ended up scoring a few points higher than my average. Not having my scores in until July 31 did not hurt me at all. I also have classmates who took it in July and August who have been getting interviews (including a few who scored lower than their averages). This obsession with having everything in the day the application opens is overblown.

Interviews and acceptances at MD programs when applying that late you and your class mate?

I mean we'll start finding out tomorrow about acceptances, but we've had no issues getting interviews. I got 3 IIs in August and my score came out July 31. We all have good grades/MCATs and good ECs.
