Im entirely clueless with college. I want to go into pharmacy because I am strong in chemistry and decent in math. However, I just don't know what to do in college (majorwise). My overall GPA so far is 3.3/4.0. SATs are 1760. I already know I am not going to a decent school, but I want to aim my life towards pharmacy.

I've done research and I found out that there is no pharmacy major for college, and that you need to find a major in something else?

Can someone just list steps here?

Thanks.

there are some schools that have the straight 6 yr pharmacy program, other schools you have to do pre-pharm for 2 yrs then re apply to get into a pharmacy school for the 3rd yr.

I think I am most likely going to do 2 years of prepharm and then pharmacy school, however, i still don't know, like what to do? Do I simply say I want to do prepharm, and they give me my major?

im in pre-pharm 2nd yr actually, you dont say anything, when u filling out the application for the college u put ur major as pre-pharm and thats it....you cant be in a pharm major if you havent finished the first 2 yrs unless its a college that has the straight 6 yr program.

So do most schools offer prepharmacy programs?

Most universities tie pre-pharm curriculums into a science major, for example at one university it falls under Biology, but at another university it falls under Chemistry, so every school is different. Your best bet is to declare either a Biology or Chemistry major because 90% of your prerequisites will fall under one or the other.

So can I apply to Rutgers, major in chemistry, however, not participate in their pharmacy program? Reason: I dont have the grades for their pharmacy program.

yeah, but RU is very competitive, and might be hard to get in the program afterwards, even if u think u wont b able to be in their prgram apply there anyways Early decision ur senior yr.

I know that.. which schools are not that competitive and average like me?

dont have thattttt much time on my hands, but u can do it ur self

click on the colleges u are interested going to, and go from there...look up the minimum GPA required and all that stuff u need to know.

wow a 1760 in SAT??? SAT I or II? anyways, either way, you're qualified for UOP's 2+3 program, so in 5 years after high school you can become a licensed pharmacist. UOP is in Stockton, California. their website is www.uop.edu just surf their web and you'll find loads of info for yourself and your future career. Good luck!!!

Edit: wait.. you must be taking the new SAT. the SAT i took is only out of 1600... the new one is out of 2400 right? nevermind then. but nonetheless, there are pharmacy programs that accept students right out of high school. just do your research. ask people around you, friends, family, pharmacists, etc.

Seriously! There is being new to the forum and then there's this. It's amazing that someone would expect others to sort through that much for them.

Where are you from? UC irvine has a pharmaceutical sciences major. You should look into it.

Btw, there is no "prepharm program" - its just a name for the set of required classes for pharmacy school (you don't even have to say you're "prepharm" when applying to colleges).

Hope that helped..

You might also consider soemthing like a "Pre-professional Sciences" major.

eelo, as in Chemistry major?

Ummm, no.

I'll resate: You might also consider something like a "Pre-Professional Sciences" major. That means, major in "Pre-professional Sciences."

Have you actually looked at the choices of major at any of those schools, or do you want someone else to do that for you? While you're looking, you might also consider looking for something like a "Pre-Professional Sciences" major.

Get your damn SATs up if you can, do some more volunteer work maybe in CVS or something and a little bit of leadership skills and apply to MCPHS. You don't have to suffer like we did after going through 2+3 yrs of pre-pharm.

Wow impressive that you know you want to do this already. Youre already ahead IMO. Look at the schools you want and take the prereqs for them and maybe you can apply without even finishing your bachelor's. As for a major just declaring Bio or Chem should get you into most of the right classes. I wish I had been so sure so early.
