Currently a junior applying this summer. I'm concerned with my GPA junior year however. Currently I sit at a 3.59 sGPA and a 3.67 overall. I overloaded both semesters in hopes that it would show admission committees I can handle a harder load.

First semester Junior year:
Biochem I: A
Physics I: A-
Analytical Chem: A-
History I: A-
Physics Lab: B+
Credits: 18
GPA: 3.76

Now, the second semester is a little different. Although I have an upward trend since freshman year, this semester has been pretty challenging. Haven't taken finals yet, but am looking at these as grades:

Biochem II: A- (maybe an A)
Physics II: B/B+
Physical Chemistry: B- (B if I crush the final)
History II: B+/A-
Sustainability Science (bio): A
Physics Lab: B+
Credits: 18
GPA: Lowest = 3.334, Highest = 3.462

After junior year ranges (lowest-highest) sGPA =(3.527-3.570)... oGPA= (3.610-3.633)

Really, physical chemistry is the killer here. I did experience a death in the family during midterms (literally two days before 4 exams) this semester (grandmother) and had to miss one midterm in physics that will be tacked onto the final (55% of my grade 👎). Did I shoot myself in the foot this second semester? Am I overreacting? How will that B- look to adcoms? Thanks for the help guys!

what's the point of overloading if you can't even get a good GPA?

sorry, just being honest

he clearly stated there was a death in his family that affected his performance....Look at the first semester and how well he did. Clearly he felt he could handle the workload.

I wouldn't fret too much about the B-, they don't look at your individual grades as much as they do your overall gpas. Just continue doing well.

It's weird that you take physics when it is not needed for DAT. Should have saved that for 4th year perhaps 😀? But still dude, keep up the good work.

Geez 18 credits?! Why would you do that to yourself! Any who, good job and keep it up. Don't let school take over your social life and prevent you from networking if it is 🙂

you are fine since u are taking a beast of a schedule AND going thru hard times. this is a strong performance IMO

btw, i know how it feels to take physics (calculus based) and P chem 1/2.

^graduated a chem major

no applicant is judged by a single performance in a single class (i.e B- in physics).... its the overall GPA that matters the most and it seems like you still have above 3.5

I think you are being necrotic, relax and enjoy undergrad. My sympathy goes out to ur family tho. All the best (keep up the good work)
