Ok, here it is! This last semester killed both my science and cumulative gpa's but decided to give it a go anyways...so...

Black female
age 19, 20 in october
3.54 overall
3.44 science
volunteering, research at ND, mentoring kids, piano, flute, track, singing, humane society.. the usual premed stuff...

Applying to schools in Chicago, all the FL schools (instate), Toledo, DC schools...

one problem.. i haven't yet taken organic chemistry!!!! I take the MCAT in August, i think i'll be fine for that, but some say that some med schools will not consider you without having taken organic chemistry... so i made a note on my app that i could give updates... maybe send a statement from the instructor to the schools interests with my current grade in orgo so the med schools get an idea of where i am...graduating undergrad in three years.

Really, really do not want to take a year off!!! 🙂 thanks in advance for your comments.

oh, and will some schools give me secondaries w/o the mcat? I take it 8/15/08 and am studying pretty heavily for it

thanks again!😍

Wait until next year to apply. Your scores won't even be out until mid-to-late September. That's when they're released; it'll be after that when the schools look at your application.

In all likelihood, you'll take the MCAT more than once (many people do). Applying next year gives you time for this. You can also take an additional few Science courses in the fall and spring to help prepare more for the MCAT and raise your BCMP.

You have time on your side; you'll only be 21 by the time you start Medical School if it's in the Summer of 2010.

OK, considered! any other thoughts out there!!! advice please!!

What exactly is your rush? you're 19 years old. A medical career is a marathon not a sprint. If you apply this year you'll have limited options due to the late start and MCAT, potentially just have to take whatever school takes you. Or worse get turned down by everyone and be out alot of money, or even worse potentially bomb the MCAT by taking it before you took Orgo. If you wait a year, you can build your ECs, give yourself the proper time to get a great MCAT, and start the app process early - result? you'll probably get acceptances from several schools (especially because you're an URM) and be able to pick the one that best fits your interests.
