If an interviewer brought up that topic during your interview and asked you to elaborate on the situation and what you learned how would you feel?

Yeah, I wouldn't include it. I did a lot of neurobio stuff in my neurobio lab, including 'bonus' things, but didn't include those. They were just part of the lab.

On the other hand, I DID include a lot of my lab classes under animal experience. In my case it was very valuable hands-on animal experience. I worked with yearlings and took them to a sale, I foaled out broodmares, helped collect stallions, worked with foals, and one lab was the only experience I have ever had with cows, sheep, pigs, and poultry. I absolutely put down those lab hours under animal experience. There IS an option of "academic" experience, after all (or at least, there was last year...)

From what I have been told you should include any type of animal experience you have done, and feel comfortable talking about (agreeing with David).
I plan to go into lab animal/research so most of my experience is related to lab animals and small animals from interning at a vet. clinic. However, even though I was a bio major in college I took animal science courses to gain experience with LA. All of my instructors at the university of maryland told me I should put this down as LA experience on my application and some of these professors cordinate with the VA-MD admissions committee. If you have no other research animal experience I would definitely include this.
As long as you are honest about what you did and that it was during a class, it can't hurt!🙂
