i didn't buy the crack DAT/PAT, but have taken the real DAT before. from what i've heard, the angles are larger/clearer on the real test, and the cube counting is much easier on the real test (i.e. there are no illusions on the real exam).
strategies for angles are usually either laptop or hiking. i don't really have a good explanation for either, so you may want to wait for someone who can explain them well.
for cube counting, making a table as you are doing already is the best method. on the test this worked well for me, and i didn't spend very much for the cube counting section, and think i got all of them. i would just suggest not rushing through it so much that you make careless mistakes on this section. one safeguard i used on the real test was counting the total number of cubes before tallying each section, and then adding the number of tallies in each section to make sure they were equal to the total number of cubes.
