I just took the time to calculate my GPAs like the instructions for AADSAS instruct and the results worry me a little. It makes me wonder if I should continue to take summer classes to up my oGPA. I am happy with where my science and bcp gpa are, but I wonder if my oGPA will make me miss some cutoffs.

Here are the numbers, input appreciated.

overall GPA 3.19
science GPA 3.69
BCP GPA 3.71
post-bacc 3.97

It sounds really stupid, but if I took 12 fluff credits this summer and 16 credits in the fall that include half required science and half fluff I could have my overall GPA closer to 3.35 at the academic update. There aren't many science classes left at my undergrad to take that will be useful in any way, probably just 9 credits worth. Is this worth it to raise my GPA for interviews post Dec 1st?

To help with advice, my DAT AA and TS is greater than 22, don't want to be too specific since I am being specific with my GPAs.

Thank you for any input, and please help me decide if it is worth taking a bunch of classes or not.

If you have time and money then take something. your post-bacc GPA doesnt matter. The only factors that will be considered are oGPA, sGPA and BCP. sGPA and BCP are in the right spot, but to avoid missing cutoffs I'd shoot to get the oGPA to 3.3 to 3.5 levels. 22 AA = guaranteed admission to at least one school. Esp somewhere like NYU or Columbia, but it wont guarantee an admission into some super heavy competitive state schools, which are better since they're cheaper and offer the same level of education (contrary to the bashing some like to offer.) Obv if you're one of those kids that want the fame and glory of attending an Ivy, then Columbia is within range. But I'd be sensible and go a good state school and save your pockets from crying.

The problem with getting my oGPA up that much it would take a very long time! I have far to many credits to make this a fast process. I would be delaying my application by at least one cycle. You think it is safe to say I will get an acceptance somewhere? My AA is higher than 22, though not sure it makes a difference. I will be applying to all sorts of schools like my state school, private schools and oos friendly public schools.

I think you're ok. Your sci GPA and bcp GPA are great and can make up for the overall GPA. The same goes for your greater than 22 DAT score. It shows you can handle your science courses. I don't see why you would need social science and english courses to prove a point to dental schools. But if you're really worried and you have the money and time, I guess it wouldn't hurt to take some non sci classes. However if you apply broadly enough (like what you said in post #3), you should land an acceptance somewhere.

Good luck

If you apply broadly you will be in dental school. Now stop worrying.

Your guaranteed admission into one private school. That's a fact and I'm willing to bet any amount of money to prove it. Unless you're Canadian. Schools like NYU and Columbia will eat you up for breakfast because they having raging love for high DAT scores. meanwhile schools like Stony Brook wouldn't give you as much love because they're fixated on high GPAs and high DAT scores. Again the only thing your low oGPA might do is keep you out of some state schools. Otherwise you will get in somewhere. If you don't feel you can improve the GPA enough then dont worry about it. It took me over 70 credits to boost my GPA by .15 points. But I need to do the post-bacc anyway.

Just apply to all your favorites on June 1st and see what happens. You're not out of any ballpark and you still have a shot. At the end of the day, you will get at least one acceptance somewhere, but the question is whether its going to be into a school that you're aiming for.

my ogpa was messed up quite a bit by those nasty social science and humanity requirements too

you'll be alright

just apply early

I would definitely suggest NYU, as wired said. They focus a lot on high DAT scores, which you'll obviously have. I also hope you decide to apply to Tufts!

Anyway, I think you're good with 10 to 15 applications. I doubt you'll need that many, but I'd prefer to play it safe. Also, get that application in within the first few days of June. Best of luck.👍
