i jst got my scores they were horrible, 11 BIO, 10 PS and a whopping 7 for verbal. My undergraduate gpa is currently 3.59. I have tons of research experience and I attend UNC-CH. Do I stand a chance at getting admitted anywhere in the country?

Hey guest! Welcome to SDN and GO HEELS!!!

i would say to go ahead and apply-- apply to lots of schools and if you're a NC resident DEFINETLY apply to ECU. do you have any patient care experience? shadowing, clinical research, volunteer at a shelter or nursing home... any sort of thing like that? if not, that's something i would look into. i can PM you with the name of a great volunteer agency in town if you want. did you take a class for the mcat? did your mcat verbal correlate to your verbal scores on the practice exam? if it was abnormally low, then you might want to look into taking the august test to bring up that verbal.

good luck and PM me with any questions. always glad to help a fellow Tarheel!! 😀

Hi,

Those score aren't awful. I think you definitely have a chance of getting in somewhere. If your scores really scare you, you can always go ahead and retake.

Honestly I do not understand where so many people are getting the notion that a 28 MCAT should prevent you from getting into med school, or even applying!! I will state it again, the national avg. for matriculants is 29.5, and that is an average mind you! Now, I am not saying that you will definitely get in, but by all means, please at least apply. If it is important for you to go to a top 20 school then you may want to retake, but I think you stand a decent chance at most schools. Really work the ECs and make sure your essay is top notch. Good luck!!

A 28 MCAT certainly wouldn't automatically preclude someone from medical school. A nice 9, 9, 10 VR would be pretty good actually for most schools. The problem, of course, is that there is a 7 in the mix and that that 7 is in arguably the most prized section, verbal. I don't think a high score in one section can make up very well for a low score in another. I still say go for it...just be prepared to discuss it in interviews. I mean, I had a 9 in bio and it was brought up in at least half of my 11 interviews. What is the writing score? I'm DEFINITELY not saying a great writing score can make up for a poor verbal score, but a poor writing score can clearly verify the accuracy of a poor verbal score.

i got a p on my writing
