Yay I just got a job at CVS .... I start next week. I havent read too many good things about working at CVS but knowing how hard it is to find a job nowadays Im just gonna suck it in esp cuz I dont have any experience in the field.

Any words of wisdom for me?

congrats!!! i work at CVS...its actually not that bad.

Congratulations. It's difficult to find a job at CVS as a pharmacist now? I am just curious.

at any pharmacy your pharmacist make or break the job. corporate cut our tech hours during the rxconnect conversion and my pharmacist is completely ignoring the limit and asking us to stay longer.

Yes it completely depends on your area and your supervisors/pharmacists/customers & fellow employees...they are what will determine you experience at CVS....so you can't entirely rely on what is said on here....I used to have a good store and now it is horrible. But congrats and good luck let us know how it goes!!

hey esca, do you know shushma patel? If so,is she still running things still?

I've been a tech at CVS for about 3 years...no complaints, pretty decent company. All the stress from corporate gets placed on the pharmacy managers, not the techs.

I've been with CVS for 3 years and like a previous poster said, the pharmacist will be the biggest factor in whether you like it there or not. Almost everyone in my pharmacy has been there for several years and my pharmacists are awesome. Working for a chain has its advantages- they are all over the country and you can pick up extra hours at another store, if needed.
If you work for them as a pharmacist you will be able to keep your original start date from when you were just a tech. So when I graduate I'll already have 7 years with the company and an extra week of vacation. 😀

This may just be a rumor but if you quit before you graduate and work for them again, you may also get a signing bonus as opposed to just being bumped up to pharmacist.

Wow!! An actual positive, realistic response...how refreshing...thank you!

I've been in the work force for 15 to 20 years. Not in pharmacy, but in retail sales and managment and this person is 100% correct. It is the people that you will work with and the people that you will serve that will influence your work environment the most. Also, your attitude is HUGE! Try to go to work with a good attitude and remember that NO job is perfect. You will have good days and bad days. You will serve jerks and you will serve people that are nice and pleasant. Just remember that your fortunate to have a job.

Just my two cents...take em or leave em!

I do. She is no longer a Pharmacy DM. I heard she moved up the ranks.

This is a rumor. As of what I've seen, there are no signing bonuses anymore and floater pharmacists (new pharmacists) are not getting full-time hours.

Our intern just graduated from pharmacy school, kept all the years that she has been with the company (as a tech and intern), and got a signing bonus of more than 20k. The city I live in has well over a million people so we're not talking about a pharmacy in the sticks. The bonuses are still there, they just might not be in your particular area.

BACK TO CVS --- Its actually a GREAT THING YOU got a job with them because they are one of the top 2 retail pharmacies (walgreens the other) and they are buying up other retails like nothing killing the competition. IN other words - you are at the right place

Jump in with both feet and just do whatever you can - the more you do the faster you will learn. Carry around a small notebook and make notes when somebody shows you how to do something so you don't have to continually ask the same questions. Be on time for your shifts!

Also, see if they have a brand/generic book around or if they can order one from the warehouse for you. I carried it around constantly the first 6 months I worked as a tech, and it really helps you answer patient questions if you know brand vs. generic name. Also, try to start learning what the drugs are used for (in general). This will help down the line when patients call in and ask for just their blood pressure med, or just their birth control to be filled.

good luck!!!!! just try not to let it stress you out and ruin your perception of pharmacy. a drive-thru tends to do that.

That is the only saving grace at my CVS. We do not have a drive-thru; however, we still do a helluva lot of scripts.

My advice for nasrahseya is to be prepared to meet the truly insane. Retail literally has the good, the bad, and the ugly. And no, I do not want to see the rash you have on on your bum. Really, I will take your word for it.
