Hey guys!

I have been monitoring this board for some time now. I know their is already a sticky with this information but I will not be applying until next cycle (college junior).

I just took the GRE and I could not be more disappointed with my scores. I want to know if I will still be considered competitive.

STATS:
Cumulative GPA: 3.919
Pre Req GPA: 3.879
152V 146Q, don't have writing back yet

72 Volunteer hours outpatient, 20 Home Health
2000 Work as PT Aide

I plan on applying to MUSC, Wingate, Belmont, USC Columbia, UF, UCF, and UNC Chapel Hill.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

Honestly, as long as you came anywhere near the minimum GRE scores for the schools that you applied to you should be fine. Your GPA is nearly perfect and that reflects a lot more on you than some standardized test that really doesn't tell anything. Good luck!

It's okay if you didn't score well. Many members of this forum, and myself included, have had to retake the GREs again. AND it's still possible for you to get admitted with retaking it. A higher GRE score will make you more competitive. You're still young, and since you have time, I encourage you to read up on some of the threads on this forum and see what you can do to improve for the next one. I'm not an admissions coordinator or anything, but your GPAs look good, so keep up your grades while you're still in school. Include more variety within your extra-curriculars, study smarter and more efficiently for your next GREs, be smart about what schools you apply to, and most importantly, stay positive.

Get some inpatient hours and take the GRE again. Anything over a combined 300 and a 3+ on the writing will do given the rest of your portfolio.

There are plenty of schools that don't require a GRE that I am sure would consider you a favorable candidate. You have nothing to be worried about. You have plenty of time to retake the GRE.

Go buy the Magoosh subscription, do some practice, and if your quant score doesn't go up by 5 points they'll refund your money. However, you scored in the 25th percentile for quant, so I'd guess your score will go up by much more than 5 points after some math refresh!

I look at it this way: If you go to a school that isn't well known, or doesn't have great brand recognition, you want a GRE score that validates your GPA, rather than calling it into question.

Short answer: You scored in the 25th percentile, of course you need to take it again. Knowing is half the battle. Study with magoosh for a few weeks and you'll be well on your way to a 310 combined.
