i did horrible.

the pat was the easiest section. i didn't take it seriously i finished it in 30 minutes. the angles were easier than any practice test i took, and everything else were easy. i did good in bio even tho i had no clue about 1/2 of the questions. i got 90% word problems in the QR section. the reading section was easy, but i don't know why i got a low score. i went straight to the questions and found most of the answers.

TS 18
PAT 18
AA 17

but i got 14 in RC.

what do you think??

how's ur gpa and extracurrics?

What were the Biology Questions like. Could you give me an idea of the taxonomy questions?

mostly genetics and ecology. no classification.
my gpa is good.

i thought organic chemistry was easy but i got a 17 in it.
which schools should i add to my list???

Hey man, I felt the same way during the test but came out with much lower score than I had hoped. I would strongly suggest you to retake the test. I have a pretty decent scores all around except Bio (16) but my TS is also 18 since I got 21 on GChem and 18 on Org Chem. my AA is 19 and PAT is 19. I am very worried considering most people here have scores 20+. am going to retake my test end of Oct. Good luck whatever you decide.

the national average was a 17 last year, so based on that information and considering how its even more competitive this year it might be in your best interest to retake.

There werent any calculation type problems with ecology were there?
Any random ass symbiosis?
What were your practice test scores?
For genetics, any pair rule gene, maternal effect genes, etc problems?
Anything completely random youve never heard of?

Thanks,
Don

what were your practice scores like? what do you mean you didnt take the pat section seriously? do you mean you just rushed through them? you didnt know half the questions in bio so did you just end up getting lucky at guessing half the answers?

What's your gpa and science gpa? What schools are on your list now? Any research or unique volunteering? What were your practice test scores, it's hard to believe there could be that dramatic a difference between those and the real thing. Can you give a complete breakdown of your scores. Thanks

Hey Issa, I don't think you did horrible..With your GPA and background you'll get in...so don't worry. What schools are you applyin to?

i remeber stuff about cell differentiation and the answer choices were all didn't make sense except one. i read the answer choices for the bio and many made no sense so i just picked the ones that made sense. i listened to 3 ecology lectures the day before i took the test and i was able to answer at least 3 ecology questions from the lecture. they were about the capacity and ecological succession steps. most of the pat questions were almost similar to my practice questions, a lot were exactly similar. i saw some in dat achiever pat2 and a lot from kaplan and topscore. the angles weren't 1 degree apart. maybe 1 or 2. the rest were more than 3 degrees a part. the whole pat section was easy.

topscore 1,2,3
bio,chem,orgo,qr,pat, rc
18,18,19,17,19,16
17,19,18,19,21,17
18,18,19,19,20,14

i applied to case,nova,NYU,and temple.
i am an international student. my gpa is 3.44 overall, 3.6 science gpa.

what other schools should i add?

most of the questions were exactly similar to my practice questions, so i already knew the answer. the paper folding section was a joke. it took me less than 5 seconds to answer each one. i spent a lot of time on cube couting. key hole and top/end/front didn't take that much time.

I'd suggest adding BU and maybe Tufts

Hey, don’t want to discourage you but I would suggest retaking it and making some time for your DATto improve. My friend (as an international student which I believe you are too) didn’t get in last year with your scores even a bit higher. So just retake it and make sure you do better.

RC is what will **** you.
Hell, Chapel Hills average is only a 19, and theyre damn good heh...

Did you use topscore / etc? How much did you study?

I know it's a bit odd, but try UPenn too. They sometimes ignore average DAT scores for students who are competitive in other ways.

I wouldn't count on an interview from Nova. Just visited the school and the dean of admissions said he's already gotten 2900 applications in the first month and using DAT and GPA to decide who gets interviews.

issa could you pleaase help me out with the pattern folding? Any tips? I have absolutely no clue how to do thiose..

Now I think your test scores are fine. I tink you have a shot at NYU because you also have a nice GPA. I would probably schedule to retake but send these scores out anyway. Im not sure if I would tell the schools I plan to retake or not though.

2900 in the first month...i feel like the numbers are gonna be higher b/c even ppl with 21+ are applying to 10+ schools...should be interesting to see how many students each school will invite for interviews...

I would retake it since you are an international student. You probably should aim for a 19 AA on the DAT.

Also, next time take your time and review your answers on the PAT. I know that I could have bumped my PAT score up a few points if I had an additional 30 minutes to look over the questions. Unless you are scoring 25+ on practice PAT exams, you should use every minute that they give you trying to get as many questions right as possible.

Psh yeah right, that would mean you actually got ahold of someone at Nova 😛

j/k, but I think they may be looking at a little bit more then gpa/dat, because I got an interview there...

You scored in the 99 percentile on the DAT AA. I think that more than makes up for having a slightly below average GPA.

armorshell said:
Well then I hope all the schools I applied to think like you/Nova 😛

Apply to Columbia if you haven't already. Last year, a Californian with GPA < 3.0 and similar DAT scores (or slightly better) got into Columbia but was rejected by all other schools.

do not retake, just beacause everyone on this forum has 20+ doesnt mean sheeeet. you are fine. enjoy!

i have heard the same story with other schools like usc. it is kind of like that really hot girl in high school that no one had balls enough to ask out b/c everyone assumed she was already involved, but it turned out that she never was. i personally know a guy that was accepted at usc with below average stats. whats a few extra dollars in app. fees?? i'd give it a go!

Does anyone else think this poster is a little comical? He talks about how easy the test was and its a joke, and he went thru it really fast, yet his scores are average. Most schools wont accept your reading comp scores first of all. Second, if the folding section was such a joke, why is your pat only 18? It seems to me as though you're oblivious to what constitutes a good score on the dat. Maybe if you took the test more seriously, you would have scored better.

agreed. strength in interviews is also important. paint a great picture of yourself in your application (duh) and make some phone calls to the schools of interest. right now, you are just another application. call the deans/ add. directors, and do some wheel greasing. it can't hurt anything!!

Oh, and just to add to people who talk about that one person with crumby stats that got in. One person in a whole class is not the best statistic to throw out there. I would rather hear "oh ya, about half my class had your stats," rather than "Well, there was this one kid with shi#$y scores but something about his application got him in"

true, but it gives *some* hope. it's up to issa in the end on what he's going to do.

Hey there...don't be so hard on Issa...sometimes we just f_ _ _ up and maybe that's what he did on the wrong day..Gosh forbid it had to be that day but it happened..and maybe he was just to anxious about the test so just went through it quickly on the PAT section..

People might be giving him a hard time, especially since he's already not happy about the scores, but JM7 does make a good point in his post. I thought kind of the same thing when I first looked at this thread.

yeah, you're right. really, you (issa) probably won't get in with that score. better said would be something like "roll the dice, throw 1500 down the tube and see what happens." what the hell kind of attitude is that?

i think he had a bad day or a bad test, his topscore scores are on par with ppl who got 20+...

Dear All,

I personally think that issa DAT score were Ok.....not 20's but average....

My DAT is fast approaching.....and I was aiming for similar score as issa....cause i have been taking Kaplan full exam and TS...and scoring pretty bad....Mind u all I have been studying its not that i have been slacking around.....I just forget....when I look back what I got wrong.....i feel really stupid.....

These are my score: AA/TS/Bio/GChem/OChem/RC/QR/PAT

midterm: 14.13/15.14/16/14/16/13/13/17
TS #2 : 16/15/15/14/15/17/16/20
k.test#3: 14.33/13.5/15/13/12/15/15/20
Final: 16.10/15.3/15/15/16/17/16/20 <-----current this morning
TS#3 <Fri>
Kaplan CD <mon>

Reason why i cant postpone my exam because...my school is opening Aug 21st....I wont be able to study with my school, work, research etc....and dont want to be late in the cycle....

I have applied to alot of schools. emm....also have 700+hrs of dental assisting....(dental ass. lic. and also have x-ray lic)...i hope it counts for something....got funded from my school for my research....not much only $750....

really hoping to get in this yr. cause i would be broke after this yr. and wont have enough to apply next yr....

Thank u all in SDN community.....u guys r great....

Sincere and honest....i'm right behind you too with those scores.

why you confused?
i thought i was going to get at least 17 in RC
i thought i was going to get a 30 in orgo
i thought i was going to get 25 in pat.
i thought i was going to get a 15 in bio because i marked 21 questions

the dat is not hard. in the RC i was doing my method for the first passage but i think i got 1/4 of the quesions correct for the first passge, but for the other passges i used different method and i was sure about many questions.
if i had more time to go back to the first passage then my rc score will be higher.

Issa..what methods were u using? I need advice for my DAT..I use the "read the first line in each paragraph and look for the answer"

Im not scoring well in RC because I am running out of time and I am a slow skimmer. But I think really the best way is too read the first 2 sentences skim as quickly as possible and read the last sentence. Sometimes the topic sentence is the last sentence of the paragraph.

The way dental apps are going, you are already late in the cycle. someone posted yesterday that upenn (i think) already has received 2900 apps??!! id say you are a bit late if those kinds of numbers are similar at most schools. why wouldn't they be? a ton of people do apply to 10+ schools.

i personally assisted the dean of admissions of a dental school for close to 70 hours, and i have like over 200 shadowing in various specialties. residency applies to some of the schools in that state, and i am a res. in that state. i was always getting comments on how beautiful my xrays turned out, my ability to learn, etc. the dean offered to help me put my app together, and when i went in, i was told that everything looked great, except for the fact that my gpa was a little lower than average (whatever that is anymore, apparantly it is above a 3.3) and that i needed to take the DAT asap. this was the end of april. so, i think all your extras are great, but the problem is making the first cut, which is based on gpa and dat scores. at that point, you are no more than name with some numbers attatched. best of luck. :luck:

You are absolutely right.....I never said that GPA and DAT mean jack....they count for alot....if u dont have the grades u wont be able to make even if u have countless hours of extra stuff.....but if u have grades u will make it.....I am not hoping for getting into UPenn, UCLA or any other high end uni.....i'll be happy going to NY, BU, Tufts, temple....any average uni (i hope).....and i am trying to do good in my DATs.....it just that such a less time left to study and i am scoring bad.....i can only do so much....
