... I started my internship. I'm in a relatively cush program but I am really feeling the hurt. Classmates of my in tougher programs have literally lost weight in the 1-2 weeks they've been at it. I've been told that it gets easier after the first couple of months... i sure hope it does because an entire year of what I went through this past week will kill me.

I remember my first month of internship. CCU at the VA hospital without much resident backup. I felt lost and behind all day long and nights were worse. I was either up working all night or unable to sleep because I was so worried about what was coming next or why my pager wasn't going off. After a few months things were much better because at least I was comfortable with the system. Then about mid winter between the seasonal affective disorder and the unending call you start feeling like internship will never end. Finally, in the spring you realize that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and you begin to realize how comfortable you have become handling all sorts of things that used to scare the crap out of you and everything seems beautiful.
