What is the difference btw a smp, a regular master, and medsci. Is one or the other preferred?
Smp is geared toward you applying for a professional school, whether it be medical, dental, vet, etc. You take courses similar to that of professional school, such as biochem, histology, neuroscience, pharmacology. When you graduate, you dont actually get a degree. Another downside is that its pretty expensive but they have high matriculation rates into professional school.
Regular masters is a masters that you can get on your own time that may or may not be specific toward you applying for professional school. Examples would be an MPH or MBA. Here, you actually obtain a degree.
Masters in medical sciences is just like an SMP but more generic and usually cheaper. You obtain a degree here. So overall, the masters in medical science is like a combination of smp and a regular masters.
Usually if you are applying to professional schools, they would like to see SMP since its specific and the program will usually help you get into professional school.. but it really doesn't matter what you do as long as you take upper level bio classes and get high grades in them.
