I am considering ranking a KC program very highly on my ROL, based on the strength of its training program.

Just wondering if anyone who's spent time in KC could tell me a little bit more about the city?

I am a single, non-Caucasian male from the Northeast and am wondering how difficult it will be to develop new social circle? I'm friendly and like making new friends but am just wondering if there exists enough other, young professionals in the city to meet?

Thanks, if anyone is able to share their insights.

I've lived in kansas city for a good number of years now and personally I think its a great city and am highly considering staying here for residency (that is to say, rank it highly and pray 😀). It's definitely one of those places which is better to live in than to visit IMHO. Unfortunately some people are turned off by the name containing 'Kansas', thinking that there are corn fields and cows disbursed among the city, but thats definitely not the case my friend.

KC offers many big-city perks without some of the overwhelming features of other larger cities, such as various sports teams, decent ethnic diversity, great restaurants and a nice music scene. Two huge advantages of KC are 1.) the great cost of living and 2.) the lack of traffic compared to big cities...sure we get the occasional traffic jam which we all complain about, but if you are from the east coast you'll laugh at what we consider rush hour. You're gonna need a car here since public transportation is not very good outside of the bus system (which i'm not familiar with). As for social life kansas city area has some great places to go out and party, go out to nice restaurants, or just go to a chill place and get a drink and hear some live music. You'll become quite familiar with the Plaza district and Westport as they are pretty popular, and these are places where plenty of young professionals go to unwind. Finally one thing that I love here is really just the midwest mentality...here you'll find sincerely nice and friendly people who won't be a jerk to you if you ask them for directions on the street.

All in all great city and a good choice my friend. Where are you looking at and in which field?

I lived there from about 1984-1988. Loved it. It has more fountains than any other city in the world, Rome included. lots of parks so that it is a green city. When I was there had lots of good dance clubs, but this was when George Michael was still part of WHAM and FLOCK OF SEAGULLS was a popular group. Pretty easy city to drive around in, lots of outdoor things you can do just outside of the city in areas like Clinton, Belton and Grandview Missouri. When I was there it had one of the best BGR's in the nation (Boy girl ratios) if you are a guy. Sports teams are fun there, people are big fans.

I can remember in 1984 I think, when the KC Royals won what was titled the I-70 world series (They played St.Louis) - some friends and I skipped school, went to see the parade for the Royals. One of the floats went by and one of our classmates was on the float with some of the Royals signing balls and throwing them to the crowd. We later saw him at school and asked him how he got on the float. He said some of the other guys skipped school also, went to the parade drunk, he stepped behind a tree to take a pee and when he stepped out the parade had paused and he just hopped on one of the floats. Nobody said anything, so he just grabbed some of the balls and signed them and threw them to the crowd. Those were fun times.

Good museums when you are feeling nerdy. Lots of colleges nearby-lots of college aged kids.

I liked it alot. The summers are sweltering steamy, and the winters and slushy and cold.

Yeah, I dropped KC down on my list because of weather. In fact, I dropped Tulsa down on my list for the same reason.

I think I'm sticking to Texas...

KC is actually a nice city. However, just like many cities you need to stay clear of certain areas because you will put yourself in position to get yourself killed. The weather is actually very nice with long springs and long falls. Most people love these times of the year. I am not sure where you are planning on living but I would tell you to either live north or south of KC. Living on the plaza can be very nice but you will need to always look over your shoulder for those who intend on causing you harm. If you have questions PM me and i'll chat with you about it. It's a very violent city just watch the local news. I just moved from there after living there for 10 years.

Yeah there are crime areas. I was from a smaller town and moved there. One of my first nights a car of women(seriously wearing things like leopard print outfits) pulled up next to me at a stop light and motioned me to roll down the window. I did, wondering if I could be of assistance to these young ladies. One of them yelled "HEY, yo wanna date?". I gulped and stammered : No ma'am; and drove off.

A week or two later I was at a do it yourself car wash, this guy came up with trench coat pulled tightly around him. I was a bit nervous, he approached me, snapped his coat open and it had watches and other junk dangling from the inside. He asked me if I needed a watch.

My roomate was walking home from a store once and someone slowed down and tossed a dead body out near him.

I was in graduate school and I took a partime job in a candy store in a mall, some guys came in and I asked if I could help them, they calmly announced : No, we are just shoplifting.

We lived near the Paseo, and then later I moved into a studio apartment near Bannister mall.

Yeah there is some crime areas. I think alot less than cities like St.Louis or DC or Phoenix. Currently I work in a very gang infiltrated school - I love it. I have lived in some crime areas. Lots of it is just common sense, attitude and aura, and not being where lightning strikes.

I wouldn't bet on the Royals or Chiefs winning anything in the near future
