Kansas State Interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just received an interview invite for january 9th... How long do interviews at KSU take? I'm trying to work on a flight itinerary.

What do you mean by how long do they take? The interview itself is around 30 minutes, and they recommend being there 30 minutes ahead of time...and I know they have some social events stuff, but that's optional.

p.s. CONGRATULATIONS!! :soexcited:

thanks haha you too! just with regard to booking a flight and such when to come back. A lot of my med school friends have all day interview affairs. I am a winter athlete so I am already missing two games and would like to get back asap.

Hey, yall! I just got an email as well. I am OOS, and my interview is Jan. 9th. I'm already kind of nervous about the interview. lol. Oh, and I'm not really used to a lot of snow or anything like that, but we'll see how it goes! Congrats to everyone!!! 🙂

Maybe they're doing it by state? I went to Cornell, and NONE of us that applied to Kansas have heard from them (at least that I know of). It's just a shot in the dark...anyone else have an idea?:xf:

I'm from Florida and don't know that many people that applied to Kansas state, but the people I do know haven't heard.

I can think of about five of us from Cornell off the top of my head, and if other NY'ers haven't heard...I say we have good reason to keep our chins up! 😳 They must be doing it by region, or something funky! And congrats to everyone else receiving good news!

I just got mine for January 9th! I am in CA in case that helps anyone, although I don't know if there is really any pattern...

Is anyone else going to the pizza party?

Also congrats to everyone else and good luck to everyone waiting!

I'm from Oklahoma... and I submitted my VMCAS about 2.5 weeks before the deadline.

and yes I'm going to the pizza party... I figure any extra contact is important!

For those of you booking flights, American Airlines now has a twice a day flight from DFW directly to Manhattan. It may make it easier and cheaper than it was for me flying into Kansas City and renting a car last year. Good luck everyone!:xf:

Its probably some random order that we are trying to make sense of. You know what would be great? If there was one day for all notifications....everyone would know from all the schools on that one day. Oh, only in my dreams!

I am a NC resident and received an invite for Jan. 9th!

Can't believe they sent out invites so early! Now I am really starting to get excited and nervous about the process! I think the next one I will hear from is Auburn.

also it looks like last year 920 oos'ers applied and they offered interviews to 248 people and positions to 174 of those... So they narrowed it down by more than 2/3's

Ah this is getting so exciting...and nerve-racking!!

Let's start a petition 😉

Haha when I got on SDN and saw this threat I re-checked (ridiculous since I have a balckberry) e-mail...nothing. I actually threw my comp to the ground. Luckily it didn't break. It's just so frustrating!

I just got an interview invite for 1/9 as well!! 🙂 So excited!!

Now I'm all anxious wondering exactly what to expect from a KSU interview. Has anyone heard anything...any rumors about the format of their interviews or whatnot?

Haha, I'm an ass. SO glad it didn't break! I just got an interview for 1/10 😍

11 minutes later you got an e-mail?

*dashes off to check his box*

Damn!

CONGRATS!! I've still heard nothing, and might cry. 🙁 KSU was top of my list.

Me too. I'm in Texas, so currently, I like the "regional/state" theory that is floating around- although Oklahoma almost burst that bubble. HopefulAg has me keeping it alive for Texas!

On that note.. I'm a Texas resident, just went to school in New York, haha.. okay I'll stop posting in this thread. I'm being obnoxious.

Did you JUST receive an e-mail??

Yes, just, like I checked SDN, saw interviews were out, checked my email, nothing, threw my comp, went downstairs to grab some grapes, open my comp back up and POOF, e-mail

Grapes!! I NEED GRAPES! *runs to the store*

Seriously congrats though. I'm uber jealous.

I'm going with the regional theory as well. I mean it's the only theory that makes sense as to why we haven't heard anything right? Right!

Btw my sister lives up in Arlington. Nice area. Hope to move up there some day.

I'm another NY resident who hasn't heard anything from them yet.

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten interview invites!

Alright...is it even possibly correlated by state? Those with interviews will you state your location?? Trying to crack the code! While refreshing my email like a mad man. ARRRG!!!!! JEALOUS! CONGRATS TO YOU ALL!

I don't know...I heard today and I am from New York and I go to school in NY. But here's hoping for you guys! :xf:

State theory in the trash! HA

I'm in NY and I went to school in MA and NY, and I just got an email today.

I have no idea how these things work...they could be completely random just to mess with our minds!

I just received an interview invite for january 9th... How long do interviews at KSU take? I'm trying to work on a flight itinerary.

The email said the interview should be about 30 minutes long. I'm also trying to plan a flight...are there any other airports nearby there besides MHK? All the flights are so expensive and not at good times!

Any idea what I can expect the weather to be like in January? I'm trying to decide if I want to drive about 8 hours, or fly.

It's really the luck of the draw...you could end up with completely dry roads, or they could be very icy. The road departments generally do a pretty good job of keeping the roads dry across the midwestern states in the winter, but you can never account for ice/snow storms. Sorry, not much help! If I was eight hours away in the winter, I would probably fly...but that would just be more for peace of mind than anything.

got an interview today for 1/9/09. CA resident here!

woot!

Congrats on all the interviews! Yay! :luck:

MHK (Manhattan) is the closest - it's right outside of town (maybe 3 miles or less?).

MCI = Kansas City. 2.5 hours east of here. Alot of us fly it.

There's Wichita, to the south, which is also about 2 hours+ I hear (never drove there myself), but some fly in/out of there.

Topeka has a little airport.. about 45 min - 1 hour east of here. I've never heard of many folks using Topeka though.

www.flymhk.com is for Manhattan airport, if you want to look at that..

Find the Interviews thing on here--- I assume it's still around - where folks anonymously rate and comment on interviews. Mine was in 2007. It's normally 3 interviewers, sometimes 2 faculty plus a local vet, but I think it varies. Depending on who you get may somewhat influence the tone. My interview, for example, was REALLY nice (of course I was stressed/nervous) but it was like a friendly chat, and I couldn't believe when the 30 minutes was up. I don't recall if the interviewers see your file before or not. Try to role-play some Q/A's with friends/family before so you can relax a bit. There's alot of info on here - just search the vet board for interview, etc.

Congrats again!

For flights, I can't seem to find any direct flights into Manhattan. Do we really have to transfer and take a baby plane to Manhattan? I don't really do baby planes or transfers...any ideas?

It is a small airport, so not many big planes (or flights at all) fly into it. Often they are quite $$$, depending on where you're coming from. Many people end up flying into KS city and driving the two hours to manhattan. Last year I believe the school ran a shuttle van from Manhattan to the KS City airport a few times during OOS interviews. However if you're pressed for time or the shuttle doesn't work in your schedule, you'll probably have to rent a car and drive yourself.

I have like a million miles, so money isnt the deal, its just finding the flights. I can't fly in anywhere other than Manhattan cuz my mom is coming with me and there is no way in hell she will drive for 2 hours. She flies anywhere that takes more than an hour to drive, haha. Do you know what airlines do fly in? Cuz I have been searching AA and JetBlue only.

I know AA does...I think United and Frontier (from denver) too. You should be able to find a flight, but I know you can't get too picky on times to arrive or anything...not much to choose from.

So I emailed KSU and according to Marcina Ritter,

"We are working on scheduling interviews now and should have all notifications sent during the first week of December if not before. Interviews are scheduled for three weekends in January."

So far we have only heard of 1 weekend 🙂
