Which of the following is involved in respiration and excretion, and develops into the placenta in humans?
a) Chorion
b) Allantois (Kaplan's answer)
c) Amnion
d) Yolk sac
e) Placenta
Allantois popped into my mind when I read "excretion", but ultimately I thought chorion is the structure that develops into the placenta. Kaplan says, "... Later during development, the vessels enlarge and become the umbilical vessels, which will connect the fetus to the placenta," which is NOT the same thing as saying that allantois develops into the placenta. What's going on here?
