Kaplan 3 months course -- Is it worth???

Hi,

I just called kaplan and came to know that Kaplan has a self study course with 14 hrs video lectures, qbank and review notes. The 1 month online material also has review notes and qbank? The price for 3 months is 699 and 1 month review notes and qbank is 399. Now I would like to know is is the 14hrs video lectures worth $300? Also is the Kaplan NBDE coaching really worth -- I know everyone has a personal opinion abt it?

I was thinking the coaching would give a direction to study as I have started studing after almost 3 yrs break. Does Kaplan do that?

Yes it does. Go forward.If you are a selforganized person, you will get good result. But be ready to study about 7-8 hours every day.

Thank you for your reply. Did you take this coaching? Any idea what these video lectures are about? Do they teach how to crack the exam / how to study for the exam or do they teach a particular subject matter/topic.

At this stage I am confused how to study. If I sit studing all the text books it would take years to take this exam and decks dont give me the entire confidence of doing a thorough study? So whats the special thing about kaplan.

Hi pals,
I took the Kaplan course [2 months] but didn't find it really helpful.Eventhough they say it is exam based I didn't find any results from it.They have everything for USMLE and basically for NBDE a cut short form of it.It all depends on how hard you study and how many hours u spend.I dont know abt the online courses but like to try something else[as far as I know only Kaplan has such courses for dental]If anybody knows abt any other courses which are really good for the NBDE part 1 ,plz quote it down,I wud highly appreciate it.

I have been in Kaplan for 1 year( they provided me the F1 Visa status).
in my opinion the videos are not worth at all. But, their explanations for released papers are wonderful. You must read them at least 2-3 times. If you are getting this material online, just go for it.
I do not think that they have many reference books for dental.
Pls read dental decks and released papers thoroughly.
Joining Kaplan for video is not a good idea.

One of my friends told me that u can get the Kaplan notes directly from the Kaplan center in chennai for 5000Rs.
I dunno if she got it eventually...so I am not sure if this info is right..U can check with the Kaplan center and find it out.

And btw..i did take the course in india 3 yrs ago and thot it was a total waste of time and money. They had stuff only for USMLE then and not for NBDE.
But I wrote the part 1 exam only last yr so prbly watever i studied 3 yrs ago dint help me too much. The only thing I enjoyed from the course was Biochemistry, the rest were not good.

Decks, Kaplan material and question papers plus Chaurasia for anat and wheelers for Dental anat were the stuff I used to prepare for Part 1.

If u jus study Decks and q papers..it will not fetch u a good score.
U need to be thorough in the basics.
U have to keep revising Kaplan notes , Decks and q papers atleast 2-3 times before u write the exam.So make sure u have time for it.
