Hey guys I just purchased the Kaplan DAT book and just wondering how effective it was for those that read it. I am new to the whole DAT prep thing so any info would be greatly appreciated. 😀

Better than Barron's

It is good for the basic sciences and a good review, but if you want to make exceptionally high scores, you will probably need additional resources, such as Cliff's AP bio, DAT Destroyer, CDP, Topscore, your textbooks, etc. because so much is covered in the DAT (especially the sciences) that no one book is going to be able to cover everything.

Well I am just looking to get accepted somewhere in Texas, either UT-SA or UT-Houston...but I'll def look into those books. Is there a certain science section which tends to be "harder" than others?

I wouldn't say any one section is harder than the other, just the amount of material to learn and cover is different for each section. For example, Biology covers a range of topics, anywhere from cell bio to ecology. With such a range of topics, and only 40 questions devoted to Biology on the DAT, it would seem that there are many random questions, therefore tackling biology would be hard for some, especially if you are a non-bio major or have not taken many bio courses. Even bio majors sometimes get stumped on questions. If you are looking to get accepted to a school in Texas, check out doc toothache's thread to see what kind of DAT score you'll need:
