OK, I'm pissed. I took the Kaplan diagnostic tests back when I started studying for the Oct PCAT, and I took the final exam Bio section today. On the diagnostic, I got 19/25 (76% correct). On the final, I got 37/50 (74% correct). That sucks. 😡 I thought my score would go up a lot after studying, but instead it went DOWN! I also thought that the diagnostics would be harder than the finals so that Kaplan can make you feel like you improved from studying, but I apparently have not improved. I have been out of school a while, and I guess I am rustier than I thought.

Is the Kaplan final exam any indication of the real thing? And if so, how does percent correct compare with percentiles on the real thing?

You will find the general consensus is that the tests that Kaplan offers are harder than the actual PCAT itself. Just keep studying and you should be fine 🙂

Thank you! 😍

I have taken the other sections of the Final Exam in the Kaplan Book, and here is what I got (% questions correct) (BTW I am using the 2004-05 PCAT book that does NOT have calculus or sentence completion. I am not terribly worried about those sections, so I am studying that on my own rather than spend the money again.)

Bio: 74
Chem: 63 I was really pressed for time 😡
Quant: 82
Reading: 91
Verbal: 92

On the quantitative section, I went approx 7 mind over time for the last 10 questions. If I were to assume that I did not go over time, and just guessed on the last 10 with an accuracy of 2/10 questions, I estimate that my score would have been about 75% correct.

I also took the Peterson's Test, and I never felt pressed for time during that one, but I kind of felt weird after I took it. Like the questions were not well thought out. Here is what I got on that one:

Reading: 100 (thought the questions seemed way too easy)
Verbal: 74 (thought the questions were REALLY weird)
Biology: 72
Quant: 92
Chem: 70

So I am guessing that the real PCAT is somewhere in between Kaplan and Petersons???
I haven't taken the online practice test yet, but I will soon and will post my scores. Also, after I take the real PCAT, I will post my scores here too, unless I am too pissed off. I would appreciate this info from anyone else. I know there are a lot of factors involved, but I am willing to accept any comparison just for a ballpark estimate. I would like to know how anyone else did on these practice tests, and also what they ended up getting on the real test.

I used to be a premed several years ago before I changed my mind about that, and people posted a lot more on SDN about relative predictability of scores based on different study guides. I am not finding that as much on the PCAT forum, and I wish I knew more about the relative difficulty compared to the real test.

In my opinion, because of the time issue on quantitative and chemistry sections, I think studying for the PCAT has been more difficult than the MCAT in a lot of ways, but of course I haven't taken the PCAT yet. Until studying for the PCAT, I NEVER once felt really pressed for time on any test, including the MCAT. Also I don't really think the content was that much more difficult on the MCAT, although it was different. I got a 33 on the MCAT (12 verbal, 11 physical, and 10 bio), but that was in 2001. I am not expecting to do as well on the PCAT based on my above practice exam scores. Well, maybe it's just that I have been out of school too long, since I finished my BS in 2002.

Any input would be appreciated from current or former PCAT test takers.
Good luck everyone!

OK, I tried to resist asking this. I tried very hard. But I just couldn't.

Am I good enough? Should I be worried?

Your scores are pretty good. I took it last year and I think the chemistry is easier than Kaplan. I actually thought the Reading Comp was hardest and that is usually my stronger area. You're doing very well.... relax 🙂 :luck: :luck: :luck:

Whenever you get scared about the PCAT scores or GPA, run around the block. I promise you'll get tired of it the 8th time around.
