Hi,
If you have all the review books and question cds from someone who recently attended the kaplan review classes, do u have to attend their classs. My question is what other benefits (or study materials) are gained by attending the class? What if you study on your own and just purchase the kaplan Qbank as a source of practice questions? R the classroom lectures that beneficial?

Thank you

It depends on how you learn best. I've found that while I can learn things independently, I learn better when I hear something and discuss it, so I made a point to attend the classes. You can watch the classes online if that works better for you.

I would say that if you think you need content review, then you should go to class. If you think you have the material down, and just need to practice, skip the classes.

I think it also depends on your teacher and your class. Mine spent too much time on basic concepts because people in the class kept asking questions. I saw a huge leap in my practice scores when I stopped going to class six hours a week and spent that time going over concepts.

I was going to the classes until just before the first full length. After that point, I have been watching the recorded lectures online. Lots of people didn't seem to take the class seriously enough for my tastes, so it was feeling like a waste of time. Also, the teachers were on a strict script in the teaching of the class so it was a very boring experience. Because of the script, I just felt it was better to save time and stay at home. If I lived closer to the course, maybe I would still go. My practice MCATs have certainly not suffered from the shift.

The only real benefit in going to all the classes is to get the money back garauntee. If you are disiplined enough to keep up on the material yourself, I feel your time is better spent doing problems on your own than having a teacher re-iterate the basic science you have already read about in your book the night before. If, however, you don't keep up with the reading, then the class might give you the bit of review you need. Sometimes you can get some good bits of advice during class.
