Which of the following procedures would be the most useful in preventing the loss of capacity of a battery while in storage?
A. The addition of lead sulfate to the electrolyte
B. Sealing the electrolyte in the battery to prevent gas loss
C. The addition of sulfuric acid to the electrolyte
D. The addition of lead and lead (IV) oxide to the electrolyte

The answer was B.

The explanation was that PbO2+SO4+4H+2e--->PbSO4+2H2O and the H2O would undergo electrolysis into H2 and O2.
But the passage says that the electrolysis only happens when all the lead (II) sulfate is used up and the battery becomes overcharged. And the passage also says that cells "should not be stored for lnog periods of time... since lead sulfate can obstruct the flow of sulfuric acid and damage the lead grids". So I'm guessing the key in the question is what "capacity" means. So... what does it mean? The real question in my head is... if we're talking about storage then shouldn't it involve sulfuric acid because that's what the passage says? What does it have to do with the electrolysis of water anyways (it doesn't have to do with storage).
