BNSN posted this in another MCAT thread:

What is the deal with Kaplan FL 2? Anyone notice that it is made up entirely of passages from Kaplan's sectional/topicals?
I was curious if other people who took the sectional/topical tests through the Kaplan program noticed this. Is it only for FL2 or other Kaplan full-lengths as well?

Just wondering - hopefully it is just FL 2! I am finishing up content review and starting to take full-lengths soon so I wanted to know ahead of time what to expect.

Yup. Kaplan FL 2 was made up almost entirely of repeat materials.

I very quickly skimmed FL 3 and nothing in there looked repeated. I will let you know as I found out more.

Wow congrats on the 13 PS/11 BS - awesome scores!

I am glad to hear that FL 3 has no repeat material. Since 3 didn't have repeat material then hopefully of their full-lengths, only FL2 has repeat material from earlier sectional/topical tests.

BNSN- were most of FL2's "repeat material" from the Section Tests (Phys Sciences, Bio Sciences, Verbal etc) or from Topical tests? Just wondering as I have not done any section tests yet. [So if most of the repeat material is from section tests I will do FL2 early before doing section tests]

I actually didn't notice it, but I scored better on the later Kaplan full lengths anyways (except for 3, for whatever reason that one brutalized me). I guess they wanted to boost our confidence or something?

I didn't notice that either. I did the course in a pretty compressed timeframe so I feel like maybe I would've recognized that.

Regardless, I think that Kaplan stuff was invaluable.

Im in the kaplan course but didnt take that test yet. Thanks for telling us this, ill probably skip that test then.

So, is Kaplan FL 2 considered to be harder then?

I just took it and got 13 PS and 13 BS. I could have easily had 14's except I second guess myself too much and have not read over Ochem in several months. Since the MCAT now does not stress ochem as much, I am not stressing it as much either.

For verbal, I do a EK vebal 101 because Kaplan verbal is crap. Got an 11.

SO, a 13,11,13 = 37 for the first practice test of the year.

Hopefully, I can do that on a real one, lol!!

BTW, I have not seen those passages before!

Was the material repeated from the topicals or the section tests?

Just wondering, because i just took the full length and did pretty good. So hopefully this wasnt just a result of me seeing the material for the second time.

So I took Kaplan FL2 and did not recognize any passages from before. (I am pretty sure if I had seen any before I would've remembered)...

I completed pretty much all of the topical and subject tests (minus a few), so I don't think the material came from those. However I have not done any section tests til date, and since BNSN said most of his stuff was repeat material (and he's done section tests), it was probably passages from the section tests he had seen.
