Looking at most of these threads, it seems as if no one is using Kaplan Home Prep series for their Step 1 prep. Are the Kaplan books they send you with their online course not sufficient to use as the ONLY source for step 1 studying? Aren't the books lengthy enough?

Or is it better to skip Kaplan Home Prep (with online lecture videos) and use a combination of different review books that people have had success with on SDN?

I think the expense of the home prep deters a lot of people when the online lectures are really the only "extra" you get for the money.

Many people here who have done will will vouch that Kaplan's books are just fine... some love them, and few would say that they are insufficient. It's just that other review books are equally good, and cheaper. If you think you can go without the online lectures, you can put together a package of A+ review books and a highly recommended question bank yourself for a hell of a lot less.
