I'm debating whether I should take Kaplan DAT or study on my own? For those who took Kaplan, did it helped you and how did it help you besides the practice questions that they give you. Do they teach you strategies in that 3 hr session? I would like some feedback on how you studied for your DATs, Kaplan or not.

If you are really disciplined, you shouldn't "have" to take it. But if you are lazy like me, then might as well take the Kaplan cuz they do give you some strategies and force you to study.

A lot of people have said the the Kaplan classroom course is a waste of time and money. My experience was good, but I had a special course through a post-bacc. I would not have gone to Kaplan if it hadn't been through the program.

The online subject tests, practice questions, and mock exams are worth the money.

When I studied for the DAT, I used Kaplan class books and blue book, old school texts and notes, Barron's for PAT, Destroyer for practice problems, and Achiever for practice exams. I studied and took notes from my textbooks and Kaplan, then took a practice exam.

After each exam, I reviewed the problems I got wrong. Most of the problems I missed fell into particular subject areas (embryology in bio, nuclear chemistry, etc.), so I would return to my notes and study those areas in which I was weak. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. after each practice exam.

I took the Kaplan classroom course and, although expensive, found it useful. I think the online aids were the most helpful, especially the full length practice tests. If you can afford it, I would recommend it. You want to study your tail of once and not have to take the DAT again!
