Are the answers to the diagnostic available?

Ya I took that a few days ago and was disappointed I got no score correlation or right/wrong answers. I looked online but didn't seem to find any. Pretty much other than working on test taking, it's pointless to spend 3 hours on it.

Does it at least give you a graph of strengths/weaknesses as the NBME does so you get an idea of what you need to focus on?

ya it does do that, but it would prolly be better to take 3 block of the qbank questions so that you know how u did relative to other users and u can check why u missed something. But since the diagnostic is there, I guess you could take it if time is not an issue.

Thanks for the info. That's really annoying that they don't make the diagnostic useful.

Yeah, that was a complete and total waste of my time. All I learned is that I'm going to somehow learn to build up some stamina over theses next few months because by the end of 3 blocks, I was so ready to stop. Oh yeah, and I also learned that I don't know anything.

They should tell you before hand that no answers are given at the end. It pissed me off that I wasted 3 hours to know virtually a meaninglesss score...just what I needed. Oh well like you said, at least i realized that I better sack up and get ready to test for over 7 hours.

Yeah, I pretty much got ass-raped over 150 questions. And when I say raped, I mean raped. Then I went back and started doing blocks of 25-- much better. It just made me realize that I need to find a way to keep my concentration. I think I'm going to have to bring powerbars and red bull to the prometric test site.

Oh yeah, and how many of you guys are using both kaplan and usmleworld? I was using usmleworld but then decided to save the questions until the last month or so of studying, so I bought 2 months of Kaplan Qbank (what's another $150 when you're $250,000 in the hole?) Is anyone else doing the same thing, or are you guys starting with USMLEWorld and ending with Kaplan?

i got both. They are 2 totally different breed of question banks in my opinion. Kaplan helps you learn the concepts and assists making the fundamental connections that between organs systems. It's also a bit picky and the new physiology questions are a bitch.

World on the other hand is gonna pick you a part on the little factoids you failed to acknowledge on ur pass through First Aid. Once u miss the question along with 88% of the other users, they explain the topic.

The way i'm doing it is cramming an organ module, doing about 70-100 questions in world on that organ system, all disciplines. Then when I get bored I do a total mix set with Kaplan.

hmmm... may not be a bad idea. Right now I'm using just Kaplan all in random mode. I haven't really gotten into reviewing, I think I'm going to more or less use the Taus method as a base-- starting to go over micro as it is a very weak point. I'm getting creamed d/t to the fact that my fund of knowledge is so rusty. I can get most of the questions narrowed down to 2 anwers, then I always pick the wrong answer.

Random question, what have you heard about which qbank is similar to the real thing? Like I have no idea what to expect on this, which is worrying me. I have this sense I will know about 60% and the other 40% are gonna be balls to the walls hard or picky and that's where learning minutiae and fine print come into play...but this is just my guess.

Also, what you doing for Cell/molec and biochem? I saw Taus method recommended some Cell molec book that no one sells anymore, nor can i find an old copy.

I did the same thing. 2 months of Kaplan and now finishing with one month of UW. I did Kaplan by subject to try to learn the material and I'm using World to work on my test taking skills. Kaplan q's tended to annoy me more and felt like they tested more obscure factoids, although UW can certainly ask some random things too. I find UW to be easier overall which seems to be at odds with avg. % correct on Kaplan vs. UW. I'm glad I'm doing UW last, because I think doing Kaplan last would be more demoralizing (at least for me).

They should really have a disclaimer at the beginning of the diagnostic that you won't be able to review your work and that no explanations are provided 😡

Does anyone know if the full-length practice test included w qbank allows for review?

World's assessment lets you review the questions for two weeks, but you don't get to touch the keyboard at all while you do. Three times and it revokes your access. Annoying for me since I had been taking some brief notes on word.

Diagnostic test from KAPLAN is mostly to assess your strengths and weaknesses so you can personalize you study when you sign up with KAPLAN.
Also answers are provided and you keep the test so you can see your answers.
