Just wondering if you guys thought this small section helped you out on the test? I'm taking it for the first time in October and want to do well -- I guess the only way to do well in this section is to practice with different passages? Sorry if this is a stupid question...😳

I think their reading strategyis archaic and would not work as well for all the tone questions that are popping up. A modified version is probably better where you write down what the paragraph is about and then jot down 2 or 3 words that keep comming up in that paragraph.

I used the kaplan strategy, and it screwed me. If you get the test that I got that was like 20+ paragraphs a section that required you to know the reading in depth you will be done. When I retake I'm just going to read the whole passage, map, and then answer. Oh also practice your method alot.

I took the DAT in august and used a slightly modified kaplan strategy that worked well for me. However, I am a VERY fast reader so I'd recommend trying it out before actual test day.

I got a 20 on RC. All I did was number a few pages 1-20 right before the RC section. Each passage had a page and the #'s represent each paragraph. It is really helpful because during the actual test each paragraph is numbered. If there was something of note in the paragraph (a particular idea or persons name -- what kaplan refers to as "keywords") I jotted it down next to the number. I didn't write down something for EVERY paragraph though. This helped because if I couldn't remember where something was I could find it quickly or I could at least recognize the general location. I ended up finishing RC with about 8 minutes to spare so I went back and looked over questions I had marked. Another thing was that if I couldn't find the answer to a question fairly quickly I marked it and came back to it later. Often I would find the answer when I was looking for the answer to another question.

RC wasn't that bad, but I realllly focused and worked quickly, almost in a frenzy, to make sure I finished everything. I can't even remember what my passages were about now, which is funny. I honestly thought I'd get better than a 20 -- I think the tone questions may have thrown me off a bit.

Good luck!

I used Kaplan's method and scored a 22RC, like everything it works for some and others no.

My strategy was a little different. Actually I did not finish the RC section but rather had to guess the last 7 questions. I just took my time with the first 2 passages and made sure I was confortable with the first 34 questions and then I had about 10 minutes left for the last passage.
Not a super great RC score but did manage a 20, I think it was around the 66-67 percentile.
