I am going to start studying for Step 1 in a few weeks, and I am trying to decide between using Kaplan's review series or other review books.

I like the idea that Kaplan has all necessary subjects together in one unified format. However, it seems that most of the students at my school use other books, such as BRS, lippincott, high yield, first-aid, etc. Any advice about comparison between these two methods in terms of ease of studying, study days needed for each, and exam success would be greatly appreciated.

I won't comment on the rest of your post but as for the part that I put in bold, that's up to the individual student (ie: You). How can anyone else assess how many days YOU need for each?

I started with Robbins, then went to the Kaplan books, then went to the BRS series, then to high yield, then back to BRS... I liked the BRS books the best, but really my only advice is to pick one and stick with it, even if 150 people tell you that you've chosen the wrong one...
