Well, I've been taking the VR section tests (haven't taken any FLs) yet.. 40 questions, 60 mins

My scores have been jumping all over the place

I've gotten a 65%, 90%, 65%, 80% on the first 4 sectional tests respectively..

The tests feel a little "odd" for some reason. Anyone have any input on relying on Kaplan VR scores..

i've had similar results. i find some of the section tests have extremely dense passages with difficult questions (and i barely have enough time to finish) and others that seem too easy

my scores have varied just about the same as yours. On the Kaplan FL's i've gotten anywhere from 9-13. On the AAMC (i've only taken two), I got an 8 and an 10.

i think the actual verbal lies within the two extremes of the Kaplan section tests - one or two difficult passages, 3 or 4 medium, and 1 or 2 easy. question types seem similar

I just took Kaplan Verbal Section test 2. The first passage looks like someone sat down with a thesaurus on his side and tried to find the most obscure words to confuse people. I have never ran into such wordiness in the AAMC tests I have taken. In fact I find the prose in the AAMC tests straightforward compared to the kaplan section tests.

However the Kaplan Book practice tests are not bad.

Yeah, I find it very bipolar as well. Sometimes they will be dead easy, and other times, incredibly difficult.

kaplan VR is more generally more difficult than the aamc tests. if youre the type of person who runs out of time in the VR, your kaplan scores are probably not that accurate. i say this because, based on the curve, kaplan doesnt penalize as much for guessing, ie. you can get many more questions wrong and still get a decent score. for example, say you only need a 65% in kaplan to hit a 10, if you guess on the entire last passage you might be okay. but with aamc you might need an 85% to hit a 10, and if you guess on the entire last passage you'll be in trouble.

The Kaplan verbal scale is a lot different from the AAMC grading scale. In Kaplan's verbal tests you can miss alot more and still hit let say a 9. However, on the AAMC tests you have to miss a lot less compared to the Kaplan verbal to even break a 9. This has been my experience with the Kaplan test. Oh, one thing should be noted though, i took the written test and not the CBT, so my perspective may be completely wrong. Anyways, good luck!!!!!👍

Considering the Kaplan tests are harder than the AAMC tests, it makes sense. That's what is great about having a standardize curved test.
