Has anyone gone through the Kaplan Verbal Section Reasoning Tests 1-11?

These are NOT from the full length exams, they are just separate VR section tests. They seem really wierd, with abstract topics and very densely written? Does anyone else have the same thoughts on these?

I did EK VR Test 3 yesterday and did Kaplan VR Section Test 5 today and it was night and day in what I was reading, I actually hated the Kaplan ones!

I'm not sure if its a waste of time for me to do these Kaplan ones. I scored a 9 on the EK exam and want to get it up to a 10-11 by exam day. Should I just focus on EK? and spend the rest of my time doing science stuff?

Also, does anyone have a score conversion chart for these Kaplan Verbals? I really have no idea how I did....

Confused & Disoriented (from all this MCAT studying).. 😕 😱 😕

Yeah, the Kaplan Verbal tests seem extremely dense, however, it does appear to be good practice. I got 8s on my Diagnostic and FL 1 for Kaplan, and took the AAMC 8, and got an 11.

i'm working through them as well...they're denser than anything you'll see on an mcat so it'll be good practice...

I've been telling everyone that Kaplan's newer material is harder, but no one listened.

Now you guys know! 😛

There is one passage in kaplan verbal 3 that makes me want to puke after the first sentence...

some are much easier though...

Yeah, I found Kaplan VR Test 5 VERY hard. The questions were really tricky, even for the easy passages. The one I hated the most was the 'Venus shining star' passage...

The Kaplan tests are incerdibly boring and dense but that's why they are so fun. I did almost all of them and it really helped me improve my scores. I am gonna go as far as saying that Kaplan passages more accurately resemble the types of passages you are likely to have than EK. I mean come on, when was the last time anyone saw a passage as entertaining as the one with the Hooker on EK on the real thing?

Just keep practicing AND going over the explanations and you should be prepped for the real thing.

Best of luck.

Sometimes I wonder if Kaplan sends anonymous reps onto SDN...
Kaplans tests are not fun and are not like the real test...buy the AAMC tests to see what the real tests are like

Dude I was being sarcastic about the fun part. I didn't even take Kaplan, took TPR. I just used the tests from Kaplan. I calls 'em like I sees 'em and I saw that Kaplan stuf is helpful.

Yeah, the OP should use the AAMC exams but there's only 6 of them out there. But in the meantime, if the OP needs practice, it's in his/her benefit to use company prep materials like Kaplan and EK.

FYI, if using your argument then EK 101 verbal or any other prep materials should be obsolete because they are "not like the real test".

rayhan's right, after doing a few kaplan verbals (not from full-lengths), the passage reads do seem quite challenging. tests 1-3 were pretty easy but i just did 5 and found it pretty damn hard. they even had a 10 question passage which ek doesn't, so it's good to test timing. but either way both ek and kaplan (recent) verbal are good. tpr kinda blows.

So far I agree with most of what I've read here. The Kaplan passages vary in density for sure. The passages in the Verbal book from the course are a bit different than my AAMC experience, but so far I've found AAMC a bit easier (although my experience is limited). I do plan on taking AAMC tests over my spring break next week, so I'll have more of a basis for judement then, but I think I'm finally getting a grip on how Kaplan is testing the VR.

For one's reference, my scores thus far:
Kaplan Diag VR: 9
Kaplan FL #1 VR: 9
AAMC 3R VR: 11
Kaplan Verbal Book:
Test 1: 9 Test 2: 10 Test 3: 10 Test 4: 8 Test 5: 10
Test 6: 11 (finally!)

yep, the kaplan practice verbal tests are definently a wake up call. scoring 35/60 42 days before the mcat is not fun at all 😛
