I am planning on taking the January MCAT and am going to take a prep course while working full time this fall. I have already ruled out Princeton Review because they meet for six hours on Sundays and I really need my weekends for me/studying. The Kaplan class starts Sept 16th and meets twice a week for 3 hours, while the EK class doesn't start until the end of October and meets twice a week for 4 hours but is split into two two-hour sessions, each on a different topic. (Both also have practice tests at home) I am at a loss for which to take because I have heard so many terrible things about Kaplan and yet I haven't heard anything about EK, my friends who took Kaplan just say they wish they took EK. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? I need to sign up in the next week or so. Thanks for your help.

It all depends... you can see the EK material in your local bookstore. Much of the Kaplan material is there as well. I think you get more with Kaplan. In terms of review courses, the quality of said course depends a lot on the teacher, which depends a lot on where you live.

I am in Boston. I'm definitely going to check out the books. I need to take a course because I do better learning in a classroom environment then solely out of the book, but like I said I don't know which will do a better job preparing me, especially with the different ways they break it down.

Truer words were never typed. This advice is golden.

Ask about the two courses in your area. Where I'm at, EK folded (they were really, really bad here) and Kaplan is considered to be the worst of the four courses that are here.

lol, EK classroom course, really? They don't even give you access to all 8 AAMC exams, and to my knowledge, don't offer any online practice...or any other practice besides their manuals which you can get for pretty cheap on amazon or ebay. If you really want to take a course and are debating between EK and Kaplan, then Kaplan will give you SO much more for your money.

Thanks for all the input. Does anybody have any experience with classes in the Boston/BU area and which is the best?
