KCOM Class of 2006

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi class....this is Rebecca....aka partner-in-crime-and-fun with Duncan.

I just wanted to say that I have had a WONDERFUL time getting to know some of you! In fact, I have had such a great time with everyone I have met that I am kicking myself for not getting to be an actual classmate. However, I hear that is a lousy reason to go to med-school - to get to hang with interesting, fun, daffy, and intelligent people. 🙂

Anyways, I just wanted to say that I am so excited for all of you and was really proud of you all as you got your white coats today. 🙂 (I was the red-head in leopard shirt who was sitting in the front row by where you got onto the stage).

Its an exciting time and I just wanted to remind you what a great group you have. 🙂

Keep up the good work and have fun!!!!

Hey Rebecca,
I don't think I've had a chance to meet you yet, but I look forward to meeting you in the future! You have always been so nice and such an encouragement on this board. Thanks for being so awesome! And don't worry about wanting to be a student - I'm sure in a few weeks we'll all be sick of studying. Anyway, take care and I'll talk to you later!!
-Andrea E.

Andrea, thanks for the kind words! We will meet soon I am sure....just look for a redhead hanging around campus. LOL

For all of you:
How is everything going? Is it everything you anticipated and looked forward to?
I know you are all just starting, but I am curious if everyone is hanging in there ok. That first day of histo sounded horrible....but everyone showed back up today right? 🙂

Wtih smiles,
The ever curious,
Rebecca aka Wifty

Hey guys, if you are looking for a better place to move in to, my condo on Sundown will be open Oct 1. We are moving to another place then, so ours will be available. It is 3 br, 1.5 bath, 1 car garage with free snow removal and lawn care. Email me if you have any questions about it!

So if I were a BUMP on my anterior tibia, what BUMP would I be? Ha ha, I crack myself up.

I think you need to get back to Biochem or Histo.

histology rocks my world...

I think it would be easier if you WERE studying rocks! 🙂

But glad to see that you are so easily 'rocked' by all the pretty swirling colors! LOL

With a wink and a smile,

Histo is what it is - it's biochem that makes me see all the pretty swirling colors. I'm not sure how this is possible, but I actually think I developed X-ray vision - while trying to read my glycolysis/TCA notes, I found myself staring right through the page and at the floor. Wow, I need to vacuum soon.

P.S. - go ahead, guess who I am 😎

Hmmm. Well, if you're seeing lots of pretty colors, you would definitely have to be.............

Nahhh, I won't give you away. But you gotta stay away from that stuff. 😀

Hi all! I just wanted to say good luck with all the studying and tests coming up the next couple weeks. 🙂

I was thinking how weird it must be to start and see people interviewing for next year and realizing how long ago that was in many ways. You have all come so far and done so well and I just wanted to give my extra thumb up of encouragement (no...I have two like everyone else! lol).

With smiles and looking forward to the fun of Thanksgiving break....

hey all
I have been accepted into KCOM for next year and had a few questions and concerns.

I'm a library buff and all throughout Undergrad would study in the library. I just can't study at home. When is the new library going to be buitl? Also, I noticed that there weren't many good places to study in the present library. Where do you all study?

How many people took the USMLE step 1 last year? What was the pass rate?

Anyway thanks for your help and good luck with your exams.

Later

Kumar,

Congratulations on your acceptance!!!

1) As for when the Library will be built, that is a good question, I would advise that you call the Admissions Dept. as they are likely far more in touch with the current plans for building. I do know, however (I was on the facilities committee that approved the plans) that the final drawings are done and approved. When construction is to start; I don't know.

2)There were a 146 (approx) COMLEX I takers last spring. The pass rate was 99.3% (first time takers). As for the USMLE, I think about 1/2 - 2/3 of our class took the USMLE. I don't know the pass rate, however, no one I talked to admitted to failing (not real scientific, however, we as students, don't get any info from the NBME regarding the exam stats.

3) On the tour they don't take you into the stacks at the library, however, in the stacks are study areas. In addition in the downstairs of the library (you have to go in pretty far and turn a corner to get to the stairs) there are study areas there too. Breakout Rooms are also a good study area as are the class rooms that are open until late. Lastly is the dungeon, which is in the basement of the Timken-Burnett building. The dungeon was my favorite place.
Although it isn't on KCOM's campus Truman State University has a beautiful library that as a KCOM student you are welcome to use. I know a lot of my classmates studied over there faithfully.

Hope this missive answers your questions. If you have any others I'd be happy to answer them (although I'm not in the class of 2006.)

Take Care, good luck and Congratulations again on your acceptance.

Almost final time, then a much needed summer break, MSII is within sight!

I hear ya. I can't wait until we are done and can enjoy the summer without having to think of anything but enjoying ourselves.

Just have to get through the usual "Pre-Finals Gauntlet" and the quarter will be history. It sure feels good.

Hey you guys! It's nice to see this thread back up. I'm ready for it all to be over too, but I know it'll probably get worse before it gets better. I'm nervous too that I'll totally screw up on one of the finals that counts a million points. And here it is a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, and off I go to spend the day studying. 🙁 Oh well, we can make it. Talk to you later!

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's all over! (well, at least for seven weeks).

Congrats to everyone for their hard work!!!!!!

CONGRATS!!!!!

I am sooo proud of you all! This year has been great....you all have shown what fine people you are & I can't think of one person that I haven't enjoyed getting to know! 🙂

Congrats again!! Enjoy your summer....do some partying for me!

With huge smiles,
Rebecca aka Wifty

Just wondering if anyone is reading this while on their preceptorship?

I am just curious how everyone is doing and if you are getting to learn alot?

I know hubby has been making rounds at the hospital in the morning and going to rural clinics in the afternoon where they have let him do stuff. 🙂

Hes loving it! Also, it sounds like they didn't expect much from an MS-1, but all the KCOM people have been showing that they are getting a great education. I guess, they are asked questions....but then go on to elaborate to an extent that is surprising the docs. 🙂

So much hands-on is awesome for a MS-1!

Just wondering how everyone else is doing.

with smiles,
Wifty aka Rebecca
