Hello! I am very grateful to receive acceptances from NYITCOM (LI), KCU-COM (KC) and CUSOM. However, I am having a hard time deciding between the three schools. Preferably, I would like to live in a more urban setting than rural although I will be studying most of the time so it's not a big factor. Staying closer to home is not a big factor either, but it may be more convenient in case I need to go home, family needs to come up such as moving in, or traveling home for holidays. Any advice appreciated!
KCU-COM (Kansas City)
Pros
CUSOM
Pros
NYITCOM (Long Island)
Pros
KCU-COM (Kansas City)
Pros
- Located in a city
- cheaper tuition, comparable to CUSOM ($51,634 per year)
- Low cost of living
- Well-established program, decent alumni and connections
- Good research opportunities
- High board scores
- H/P/F curriculum
- Great match list
- Global health track and also DO/MBA
- Far away from home (18hr drive/6 hr flight)
- Areas off campus not safe and sketchy
- larger class size (270)
CUSOM
Pros
- Closer to home (6hr drive)
- Tuition comparable to KCU-COM ($55,150 per year)
- Good research opportunities
- Low cost of living
- High board scores
- Good match list
- smaller class size (160)
- in the middle of nowhere, rural setting
- Newest of the 3 programs and less connections but an up and coming program.
- Mandatory attendance
- Letter grading
- dress code (not really a con but inconvenient)
- Rotation setup is somewhat limited as the sites are more rural and less urban sites (pls correct me if I'm wrong about this)
NYITCOM (Long Island)
Pros
- Closer to home (6hr drive)
- Located near a city
- Well-established program, decent alumni and connections
- Great match list
- H/P/F curriculum
- Lots of research opportunities
- Expensive tuition ($61,960 per year)
- High cost of living
- NYC not too safe
- Average board scores
