I saw that KCUMB has a course requirement for genetics. I have not taken this course yet, but would it be ok to take a pre-requisite for a school at a community college or should it be taken at a degree-granting university? Thanks!

It depends on the school, but most folks will recommend that you take it at a four-year institution if possible. I took almost all of my prereqs at a community college but it was out of necessity: they worked better with my work hours and cost about 10% of what a four-year college would. The only university that outright made a big deal about it was Boston. They make you specify on your secondary app how many prereqs you took at a four-year college.

They just don't want to see you enrolled at XYZ University and skipping out to take your prereqs at ABC Community College because it's easier.

if you are specifically talking about KCUMB only, I would ask them. And after you do, bring their answer back here because I would like to know as well.

I think you would be fine taking it at a CC if you need to. It's just one class, not a bulk of your pre-reqs or anything. As with anything, call and make sure, but if it helps you rest easy for now I think you'll be fine.

Awesome! I already have my Bachelor's, so I was just checking to see if I needed to apply to another university or not. Thanks for the help! I will call and find out and post back!

you are 100% fine to take it at a community college. I didn't have my biochemistry and they recommended taking it online. As long as the school is accredited and you get a grade for it you are fine.

Thanks for the response! I recently called the admissions office and they said they were fine with that, and I can take it after acceptance if necessary.
