Hi everyone, I was just looking over the interview feedbacks from KCUMB, appears to me that they ask at least one question about medical ethics and at least one questions about what's the biggest problem in medicine today....those of you who already interviewed at KCUMB, you guys agree with that trend? Should I focuse on preparing for current medical issues and ethical issues?

thanks so much!

really, it depends on who interviews you. i didn't get either an ethical or a medical trends question. the good thing is that the student ambassadors will give you the scoop on whoever is assigned to interview you, so you know what to expect. good luck!

Yes, that is exactly what I had...I had 1 medical ethics question (What would you do if your terminally ill patient told you he was planning on committing suicide), and 1 general what's the prob in medicine today. Some people had an interviewer that asked something like 8 ethical questions in a row. If I were you, I'd call right now and ask who your interviewer is (I think they can tell you ahead of time), especially if you're someone who gets nervous if you get hit with questions you weren't prepared for. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for the help, you guys are great.

Anymore inputs?

Hi Tallulah,
regarding the part about asking who my interviewers will be, do you know which interviewers tends to ask more hard ethics and medical issues questions? So I can get an idea when they tell me who will be interviewing me

thanks

I can't at all remember the name of my interviewer, but I'd recognize it if I saw it (there were 2). I think that if you get the name and then just post it on SDN, I'm sure at least one person will know about the interviewer. On the day of the interview, the tour guides know all of them and let you know how your interviewer is and everything, but for before that, I guess just post it on here and see who answers.

I interviewed at KCUMB two weeks ago and got accepted within 5 days. My interview didnt have any medical ethics questions or any questions about what is wrong in medicine. I know that the interviewer known for asking these types of questions is Dr. Butterworth. She is the only specific name I know of. Even though she asks lots of these questions, she is supposed to be an amazing lady. She is a big part of the University and even has a building named after her. The interviews seemed to go well for everyone there on my day. I didnt talk to a single person who said that they had a bad interview. I wouldnt worry too much but do have some idea of answers you could give to the medical ethics questions. Even if you dont get asked these questions, it is good information to know anyways. Good luck with your interview! Dont be nervous! there is nothing to be nervous about. You got the interview and now you are practically in! time to show them who you are.

this is true -- i think once you get to the interview stage, they want to accept you. basically, if you don't totally blow it, you're going to get admitted.

The only medical ethics question I got at my interview was "Give us a laundry list of ethical issues facing medicine, with no explanation." I just listed off some obvious ones (they didn't want any elaboration), then we moved on to another question. I think they just wanted to make sure I was aware that there are issues out there. Don't stress about the interview, just be yourself and you'll be fine. I got accepted less than a week after my interview!

you can also check on the computers in the lounge to see who your interviewers, but basically if you interview then they want you.

Those that got accepted, please post your plans on the kcumb class thread. 🙂

The hardest question I was asked was how i liked my ballroom dancing class and if i still continue to dance. Other than that my interviewers pretty much just were in a giggling mood and told me about themselves....pretty odd i must say but i enjoyed it.

I had one generalized ethical question and then they made it more specific. I didn't get the what's wrong with healthcare today question. Too bad, because I had an answer all prepared for it!

Thanks so much for all your inputs, it's really nice to see so much support from all of you. To be honest, I'm extremely nervous, I recently got put on the alternate list by DMU, so now I'm really freaked out about interviews. The worst part is not know what went wrong. KCUMB is one of my top choices, and I really want to do well, and truly show them who I am. I'll follow your advices about finding out who my interviewers will be. I'm still currently in the process of sending out my reply for the interview. Once they recieve that I think they'll assign me interviewers right? I think I'll call them and find out then, I hope they don't frown upon me calling in advance to find out... 😳

nevertheless, I'm so grateful for all of your inputs, thanks a bunch! You are all amazing 👍 👍
