Hey all,

I can't believe I'm back here. But, ever since my acceptance to KCUMB I was dead set on it. I love everything about the school so much that I cancelled 4 other interviews. However, I just received a PCOM interview invite and I'm considering going since a physician I shadowed is an alum....and he's a great doctor.

If anyone can share their thoughts about PCOM, KCUMB, or just my dilemma in general....I would appreciate it. Thank you all!

Where are you from? Where did you do your undergraduate education?

What did you like about KCUMB? Will PCOM be able to offer those things?

What do you want to get out of your medical education? Where do you want to practice?

I am going to have to make a big decision, too, in the next couple of weeks, and these are the questions I am asking myself. Now, where AM I from?... 🙂

Personally, I would advise you to go to the PCOM interview if you are financially able so that you can make a more educated decision about where you want to end up.

all I can tell you is that whenever I see "KCUMB" I think it says "KCRUMB"

Oh yeah I forgot my advice. If you absolutely LOVE KCUMB, maybe just go for it. I was dead set on DMU and loved it, but still interviewed at a couple more places. I reeeeeeeeeally liked those places as well and it was fun to interview and travel, but I still think I like DMU best and the other schools just made a hard decision tougher

if $$ for the travelling isn't going to be a big problem, I would suggest going on the interview. You just never know how you'll feel about a place until you've been there.

Along the lines of what the others have said (besides the KCRUMB thing), if you can afford to go, do it. KCUMB is a great school, but if you don't take the PCOM interview you may always wonder what you decided to pass on.

I really like the traditional architecture at KCUMB.

Is KCUMB big on religion?

The webpage has quotes about faith and the Bible. Plus, it says in the body: "an innovative patient-centered curriculum provides clinical and academic enhancements, including a spirituality component that introduces elements of spirituality..."

I don't think that it is. But, I do like the fact that they adknowledge the spiritual aspect of healthcare.

KCUMB won this big "spirituality in medicine" award when I was a medical student (UHS then). It is not a religious school, and I never remembered it to be spiritual in anyway...except for the campus student groups.

osteopathic medicine was founded by a minister (it seems like stills had a million jobs), so there is GOD in its history and early foundation, but there has been a deemphasis on that

Was Stills a minister or was it his father? Not that it matters ...

I would not say they are big on religion persay. The only time I've heard a verse being said was from Pres. Pletz, and I don't ever remember the occasion. We have won the Templeton award twice (only one of a handful of schools to do so) but to me it has to do more with acknowledging the patient's spiritual/religious convictions than providing a place to foster our own beliefs.

PCOM has no religious affiliation.

It was my top choice school before I applied and after I interview at other places.

If you are seriously considering PCOM then go to the interview. If not, then bow out. Good luck with your decision.
