so i've been reading a lot about people on SDN getting emails/brochures from top us medical schools...

i've also gotten two brochures, but they are all from caribbean schools? does this mean anything? or am i getting an omen of what's to come? no us medical school has send me anything yet, no email, no brochure, no "we got you on our radar" type thing....no nothing.

I wouldn't stress out about it too much. Mass emails/brochures from schools do not represent their interest in you as an individual, and the lack of any contact from them does not mean they don't want you. Chances are, you aren't on any lists from which to get any emails.

I get an email from a Caribbean school basically every two weeks or so. I have gotten some brochures from some of the newer US schools too. I wouldn't stress too much about this stuff.

I got spam emails every week last year from Ross, and now I'm a reapp... just sayin' OP.

Did you agree to receive information from medical schools when you took your MCAT?

They need warm bodied. More applicants equals more application fees. Dont read more into it than what it is.

It's called spam. Welcome to the Internet. Your journey awaits.

It doesn't mean anything, just junk mail. I'm about to start MS2 and I'm still getting emails from Trinity SOM inviting me to apply.

Basically, they infer from your scores that you will not get into stateside MD schools. Although DO is still an option, they try to sweep in more prideful students who will go for a Caribbean MD instead.

...PSYCHE.

It means nothing. They found evidence you're applying to med school. They know nothing of your chances stateside. Don't read anything into it. =P

I think they're just crazy about advertising.

The science building at my school always had carib school flyers up on the walls. I still get emails from one of two of them, despite the fact that I already applied and am starting at a US school in the fall.

They need warm bodies to sign loan paperwork.

I checked the little box before taking the MCAT that said I agree to let med schools solicit me. I figured "hey, why not? I learned about some of the colleges I applied to in high school that way after taking the SAT". When I got my 39 I figured I'd be getting marketing mail from good schools. Instead, virtually everything I got sent came from the Caribbean (Ross was definitely the biggest offender of filling my mailbox with spam). I got some mail from a couple new MD programs and some army recruiting thing. The only well known US school that ended up sending me something was WashU which isn't surprising considering WashU's reputed fixation on MCAT scores.

So don't sweat it OP. Unlike high school and the SAT/ACT, it seems that the only schools who send out marketing materials after the MCAT are the ones that need to advertise. And WashU. Although to be fair to WashU, according to another thread on this board apparently Harvard sends out letters to URMs encouraging them to apply to their schools.
